    I have my parents computer installed with Windows 7 Ult SP1 [32-bit]. My father is 77 and my mother is 73. My mother is in the hospital, so my father is having problems shutting down Windows. Is there a way to have Windows ONLY show SHUT DOWN, and he can't choose anything else? I'm trying to make it every easy for him to SHUT DOWN Windows, but he keeps forgetting to SHUT DOWN, sometimes he just logs off, which still has the computer running.

    I would really appreciate any and all suggestions. I have no where else to turn.
    Thank You. :worthy:

    Start> Control Panel> Appearance and Personalization> Customize the Start menu> Customize, then you can choose which programs to disappear from Start menu.

    "Appearance and Personalization" is not a selection in any of my Windows 7 control panels. I haven't looked in a long time, but for at least a while, Microsoft's help lagged the latest build of Windows 7.

    You make changes from the Task Bar and Start Menu Properties.

    I think you need to have control panel set to view by category, and not by large or small icons. But yes, you can also right click on the taskbar and select properties.

    Press ALT+F4 keys and a menu will pop-up offering you or your dad a selection menu: (these are the options) stand-by, restart, shut down, log off. Left click on shut down and then left click on OK, and this will shut down the PC.

    Stop hovering to collapse... Click to collapse... Hover to expand... Click to expand...

    The easiest solution is this one:biggrin: My wife :hug2: is not too computer savvy so this is the best way she knows how to shut down the computer.

    Let's hope she doesn't start pulling the power cord out of the socket. :biggrin:

    Open Control Panel, then Power Options and choose what the power button does.

    You can disable some of the options by merging this reg file.

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
    "StartMenuLogOff"=dword:00000001

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System]
    "HideFastUserSwitching"=dword:00000001
    "DisableLockWorkstation"=dword:00000001
