Hello, I am looking forward to creating an up-to-date Windows 7 ISO for my laptop. What all steps do I have to perform? W10UI is straightforward and have used it to create multiple W10 ISOs. Also what edition do I choose? Like I use Edu/Enterprise for Windows 10. From what I've gathered, If anyone is looking forward to creating an up-to-date Windows 7 ISO: 1. Use SiMPLiX ISO tool by @Enthousiast to create an updated ISO. 2. Set it up to avoid updates through WU during initial setup screen. 3. Use SiMPLiX update pack afterwards to service/install updates as and when newer updates are released. (What update method to use is completely based upon user)
@sxhilkxdxm https://forums.mydigitallife.net/threads/79421/ If you want the most of it, opt for Ultimate (can be activated using OEM:SLP method, so you can use Daz's loader) or Enterprise (can be activated using a KMS emulator).
Thanks @Tito I have performed following steps: 1. Place source ISO in W7_X64 & W10_X64 folder respectively 2. Edit SiMPLiX.bat to FixON (Meltdown) 3. Run with admin rights W7_x64_AiO_New_2.3.cmd, referred @Enthousiast settings on Pg.65 4.ISO created successfully in folder Successfully booted new up-to-date ISO. What are post-install best practices for a Windows 7 setup? For W10, I used to gpedit.msc > Security level telemetry and that's all. Don't want *choppa-choppa* scripts and all, things that would actually work. Pls suggest if any as this will be my primary laptop for time being.
Post -install after drivers I ran Windows update and got all important updates installed. How do I disable Windows update and use simplix tool?
Windows 7 has a nice setting for WU, "never search for updates". ps, after using the latest simplix updatepack, there are no important windows updates, when used the WA files, vcredist by @abbodi1406 during offline updating by the pack will be integrated too.
Thank you. I was confused. So basically Simplix is an update pack having all required windows updates. We do not need to use WU if we use Simplix, correct?
That is the initial and actual purpose of the updatepacks, to avoid using WU, but WU can always be used when desired.
By going into services.msc, selecting Windows Update and disabling the service. Also kill/stop the service while you're at it.
Noted, thanks. So to run a W7 based system in 2021, 1. Create an up-to-date ISO 2. Disable WU updates 3. Use Simplix to maintain/service Updates
Exactly. Don't forget a good AV software, as the Windows 7 version of Defender is not the same as the one in 8.x or 10. Some software recommendations collected here: https://forums.mydigitallife.net/threads/freeware-software-that-works.14124/ (Win7 still runs most of them).
Is an AV absolutely needed if I have decent browsing habits/hardened browser? If yes, pls suggest one as I haven't used an AV except W10 Defender.
Common Sense 2021 and Brain 2021 are quite important (for all OS). For the rest, I'm running the AV from Comodo (using the firewall, too).
MDL enthy tool for Simplix update pack integeration is one of the best of the best tool in this online world. Anybody will love the hard job by enthy in this project of himself.
