Upgrade advisor would detect hardware incompatible. Use the search to find similar article that some guy got it to work. It's going to be slow though.

7 is better with multitasking compared to XP so with that little RAM it would suck if it indeed does run

I haven't tried running Windows 7 with 512MB ram, but I am currently running Windows 7 Professional with 736MB ram on an Apple Mac Mini in bootcamp, and it runs almost as well as my dedicated home built PC with 2GB ram. If your PC will support at least 736MB, i would recommend at least that amount.

    Hi

My old Digidice media centre is running W7 with 512mb and a 2.8 ghz p4
I only use it to watch movies on the big screen and it works perfectly no issues at all
the boot time isnt going to win any prizes but it does its job

I have homebasic installed on my girlfriend's 512MB 1.6GHz (single core) laptop and it works ok for surfing on the web, reading mails, playing music etc. It boots a bit slow but it's faster than the xp install that was on it before (but that was bloated with useless crap).

    Hi,
I've installed Win7 starter in my (very) old P3 (533Mhz) PC with 512MB.
It is a bit slow, but I use it only to surf the web and word editor.
