I've got a small network with a Windows Server 2012 and several PC's. One of these gives me trouble. It's a machine with Windows 8.1 WMC. Personal files of the user of this machine are on the server. This works with a folder redirection policy. This always worked nicely but since the update to 8.1 the user can not always get his files. It then takes a long time to get the folders and files displayed in file explorer and when they are, he cannot display a picture. After a timeout this error gets displayed: "There has been an error. The photo or video cannot be displayed. Errorcode 0x80004004". Copying the same file to his own computer works fine. Sometimes the file explorer freezes and eventually the desktop resets. Only a restart of the Windows 8.1 computer resolves this problem. But it returns, sometimes only once a day, sometimes more often. There are no events that point to this problem. Any hints are welcome.
Thanks pisthai. As I wrote: there was no problem until upgrading to Windows 8.1. The server has not changed.
what about replacing wmc with enterprise fresh install and ent is made for networking, has all this stuff
I also have server and windows 8.1 and have sometimes problems connecting to my windows 8.1 but the other way around mostly works Greetz base Ps i have windows 8.1 enterprise
Win8.x loves to randomly drop connections sometimes. To fix this issue you should install specific drivers for your network chipset from your motherboard manufacturer.
Running an home network with Windows Server as File/Application Server and no Active Directory Services setup, the connection will drops many times! That was intensified with the appearance of Windows 8.1!
Updated the driver of the NIC. Tried all suggestions on the net. Nothing helps. Transfer speed fluctuates (see attachement) or even comes to a standstil and crashes File Explorer. Transfers in both directions fail. Gues I have to try a different NIC.
You mean: Remote Differential Compression (RDC)? Tried that also: no improvement. I think it has nothing to do with being in a domain. For your information: internet speed is OK at all times and CPU load is low during transfers.
