Hello all, Longtime lurker, firsttime poster.... I have not had a chance to work out how to decode/read .dmp files. I am having issues with a new Toshiba laptop that I have put 8.1 pro with WMC on. The laptop does not want to sleep or hibernate properly. I initiate a sleep or hibernate, the screen goes black, but the system remains on unless the power button is held for 10 secs (forced power off). Prior to holding the power button, I am unable to do anything to the laptop to wake it, and the lights and fan are still active so it appears to be crashing during the going to sleep/hibernate stage. Shutdown works fine. Just wondering if anyone has time to look at the .dmp file and advise me what driver is causing the issues. Eventlog indicates a 0x0000009f error. Before expecting anyone to do that, you should confirm that you have grabbed all the latest drivers from the various chip manufacterers websites. The first suspect would be the video driver but try and get all the important drivers up to late August (and September!) if you can.
Have you tried fiddling with the power control settings? I don't know if there's an easier shortcut, but you right click desktop and click Personalize... >screen saver >change power settings As to what exactly to set things to, beats me... I use a desktop system. You could also try admin prompt: powercfg -h on and reboot
Exactly the same thing here. It was working perfectly with 8.1 Preview, now I updated to 8.1 RTM and it doesn't go to sleep or hibernate, instead it is "doing something" with the hard disk for about 3-4 minutes, then it turns off. I tried everything I could think of and also many different things I read on the internet. But I do have VirtualBox installed, should I try to uninstall it??
same problem here on win8.1 RTM :/ shutdown, hibernating, sleep :/ it worked earlier. uninstalled VBox... working now But i need Vbox :/
In my case, the culprit was Cisco Anyconnect VPN network adapter. Ater uninstalling it, sleep works like a charm. You can run some command in CMD and it dumps out what are the problems associated with sleep. Dont remember the command. In the list dumped out, I could see Cisco VPN and hence removed it
Most recent Toshiba laptops (~2 yrs. or less) have its own power management which requires proper driver installation from Toshiba's site. Having said that, my Toshiba Protege is working fine with 8.1 RTM both sleeping/hibernating as expected (Windows Update installed Toshiba-specific drivers).
Thank you for the clues.... Yes drivers are all up to date....FYI for others Toshiba laptop users, the Atheros WiFi drivers cause my laptop to crash. so have skipped those. I do have Cisco VPN, so will try removing that and see what happens. John
Cisco VPN Client crashes win8.1 when invoking sleep Thanks! solved the problem here as well, unfortunately i need to use the Cisco VPN client, were you able to re-install it without having the sleep issue?
shrewsoft is an alternative.... Setup instructions for my situation are shown here... superuser.com/questions/312947/how-to-configure-shrewsoft-vpn-to-connect-to-cisco-vpn-server
