I get this this message You can't install Windows 8.1 Preview because your processor doesn't support CompareExchange128. Any help?
I an running Windows 8 now. Windows 8.1 Preview (x64) - DVD (English) File Name: en_windows_8.1_preview_x64_dvd_2358761.iso Languages: English SHA1: D8076E029292FBC933792D215793045031255FF6 It don't show up to download from the store.
I'm getting a failure to install as well. Upgrading from Windows 8 64bit. At the end of the install I get the error code "0xC1900101-0x4000D", with a message about the install failure, and then a reversion back to the previous version. This is just beginning to show up on the Microsoft boards --- ten people have mentioned the problem in the last hour that I know of...
Mybe the time for deploy a new OS,even based on Windows 7 was too short? I mean in comparison with W7 deployment time...
Well Vista was 06', then they had a beta for 7 in 08', and then release in 09' - so thats 3 years between RTMs - Windows 8 had a few betas - one in 11' and then two in 12' with RTM in 12' - so thats another 3 years, with significantly higher levels of feedback. I'd say they were given plenty of time, they just dun' goofed.
Yes,u're right but they trying now to do an OS to be the same for all devices, with that I think they are failed.I mean Apple has different OS for their devices. An OS designed for tablets and touch-screens have nothing to do,in my opinion, with a desktop PC or with keyboard and mouse, even they modify system settings to be used with these mentioned devices..
cpu instructions set I just checked the instructions set, what processor do you have? "Early AMD64 processors lacked the CMPXCHG16B instruction, which is an extension of the CMPXCHG8B instruction present on most post-80486 processors. Similar to CMPXCHG8B, CMPXCHG16B allows for atomic operations on octal words. This is useful for parallel algorithms that use compare and swap on data larger than the size of a pointer, common in lock-free and wait-free algorithms" From wikipedia's X86-64 article. You can check with aida64, in CPUID under Motherboard for CMPXCHG16B Instructions, SSE2, DEP (Data Execution Prevention) and 3dnowprefetch. Also make sure that virtualization and dep or nx bit are enabled in bios hope this helps, cheers.
hate to say this but your processor is too old, from 2006, socket 939. the newest athlon II or phenoms work your 64 x2 4400+ doesn't support CMPXCHG16 and AMD's RVI (rapid virtualization or nested pages). cheers
"Clarkdale processors are sold under the Intel Core, Pentium and Celeron brand names, with varying feature sets. The Core i5 versions generally have all features enabled, with only the Core i5-661 model lacking Intel VT-d and TXT like the Core i3, which also does not support Turbo Boost and the AES new instructions. In addition, the Pentium and Celeron versions do not have SMT, and they can only use a reduced amount of third-level cache." Wikipedia has the answer no vt-d on i3s and some i5s.
I have the same issue as well. My processor does not support Windows 8.1 x64. Most likely, this a restriction placed inside the kernel itself, similar to the one that prevented the instalation of Windows 8 x86 on machines with CPUs that did not have NX. Recently, I have found that someone on this forum managed to discover a way, altough with drawbacks, to bypass that. Many people will have issues with this, especially from 3rd world countries and students who have free Dreamspark licenses on Windows Server 2012 (that has the Windows 8 x64 kernel), especially since no free upgrade is given for WS2012 (Perhaps only the kernel will be upgraded for free, and the rest will be kept as it is today.). Or people who bought Windows 8, and were suppose to receive free upgrades to Windows 8.1 . Will they be forced to move to the x86 version, that lacks performance and not only? Will they be forced to buy expensive new hardware? A similar workaround like that one will be very helpfull, not for piracy, but be able to use genuine Microsoft software for some who can not upgrade hardware.
