What do You want from official Windows Blog ? They don't tell you: "my whole team sucks, final release was leaked two months before premiere ... congratulations for WZOR Team and people from MDL ... "
The leaked ISO IS final. End of story. Microsoft is taking time for OEMs to prepare for the upgrade and release all those useless "upgrade assistant" tools so existing Windows 8 installations won't get messed up by the update on OEM PCs. And finally, they are ironing out some bugs that will be addressed with Windows Update patches, not further Windows builds. So yes, Windows 8.1 may not be technically "complete" or "ready for use" but it's definitely THIS build that will get updated, there won't be any further compiles.
The leaked build that we got from WZT is the build that Microsoft sent to OEMs so they can start installing it on their stock before they ship the new computers. OEMs needed lead time to customize their installation files with their logo and other crapware. Apparently OEMs carry more weight than developers because developers didn't get the OEM build to play with. However, Microsoft said they will continue to refine 8.1 before deciding on a final build to release to everybody other than OEMs. The OEM build will get updated with the improvements through Windows Update. So we can start looking ahead to the next RTM which will be coming along in October on or before the general public release scheduled for October 18.
There won't be another RTM, it will be the current build+a bunch of WU updates. Nothing more. The build will remain unchanged.
Wasn't there quite a large update for Windows 8 RTM on or near the release? This doesn't surprise me at all, there will always be updates between the RTM and the public reveal, not sure why this is news.
The single problem with the leaked ISO by WZT that are OEM images not retail and this why you can't upgrade from windows 8 to 8.1 without insterting the key provided by WZT.
The "single" problem is that people insist on being able to upgrade NOW instead of waiting for the official release or wiping their hard drives. Windows 8.1 is FREE, no point on offering the "upgrade" option. That'll come from Windows Store.
there certainly will be retail isos as well because new customers don't buy 8 first to upgrade to 8.1
In that case they will be upgrading from Windows 7, not Windows 8. What I meant is that no one will need to upgrade from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 using some "retail" installation media.
Yes of course, they will replace Windows 8 with Windows 8.1 in the stores. I simply don't get why people complain about not being able to do an upgrade from Windows 8 to 8.1 using WZT isos, Windows 8.1 is not meant to be installed from Windows 8 in any way other than Windows Store. We're getting off topic here though I guess we cleared out our misunderstanding
if they are talking about the bunch of bugs that this RTM has, then they are right. But Im pretty sure that wzor has released the real s**t.
