The unfortunate thing is that even technet/msdn subscriber might this time round only be able to access win 8.1 on oct 17 itself, not a few weeks after rtm like in the past
They still didn't say anything about MSDN, I don't get why they wouldn't give it to us, devs need to test their apps and get it ready for 8.1, Windows needs those apps at launch! And while Windows 8 apps willstill work on 8.1 they won't take advantage ofnew features, and these features can and will screw up existing apps (especially the redesigned snap).
Wait and see! It's hardly that the final public launch will be at the same time as the RTM. The RTM is needed by OEM's for to give them the time to prepare their product and MS will not set that in question!
OEMs will of course get it soon after RTM is compiled, and it will undoubtedly leak pretty soon after that, but even then it's bulls**t if devs don't get before GA! What happened to "Developers! Developers! Developers!"??
Absolutely.. IMHO Windows 8.1's success will largely depend on the expansion of store app development...anyway nothing is definite yet.. I think MSDN will get it as soon as OEM's give them the thumbs up...
consider MSDN for the future: If MS restricts access to developer resources like Technet (only 1 year left over) and MSDN earlier than the public, they will loose a lot of customers and then the way down the drain is open ... I'd never paid for Technet and MSDN just to have files the same day as average Joe. Guess they will think about this pretty soon ...
LOL, I read the other thread first and then noticed this one, actually posted earlier, would the mods decide to have just one thread on RTM release so there won't be a flood of double posts? btw, Neowin news posted about MS decided to have final coding on Aug. 23, from what I knew, this was actually the initial targeted day, and it has changed, rumors are all flying. I'd say: what do I care now? just que sera sera.
It will be a RTM version 0 in 8 days and RTM Version 1 in October 17 Between August 23 and October 17, MS will continue to fix bugs. So RTM1= RTM0 + fix bugs It is tied to the production of a new system on one year
There are no two different RTM versions. When signed off Aug 23 it is RTM and will be shipped to OEM partners. Version October is the same as RTM and gets its updates as usual through WU
And that's why after installation of the RTM, let say on October 17. 2013 there will be already Updates available!
