I have an alienware alpha with windows 8.1 from dell. Is there a way I can convert it to windows 8.1 pro? And then upgrade that to media center edition? I have a code for media center.

    Thanks

The upgrade should even work directly from your Core version. Use the 'Add Features to ...' option, enter the WMC key and and let the magic happen.

I actually use media center with a cable card and use it as a dvr to record shows.
I tried the windows media center key with the core, and it said I needed to be on pro edition for it to work.

it looks like you will have to install Win8.1 pro on top of Win8.1 core first before you can use the add features option to use the wmc key. when you use the wmc key on win8.1 pro (not core), the edition of win8.1 will change to "win8.1 pro + wmc" and should say so in the System Properties window.
