No start button back yet in 8.1 builds. There was talk that it might not be merged in until after the public preview in June.

7 looks much better. But only with 8 did my long-standing USB3, sd card reader (sdxc cards), and JMicro accelerometer issues get fixed. Before, the Renesas USB3 was broken. It would always stop responding after a few gigs transferred, regardless of driver version. My built-in SD Card reader would not sustain writes to my SDXC cards, and its max speed was always 5.5MB/sec. JMicro driver did nothing and made the system unstable (this was reported numerous times), forcing me to go without HDD protection. Yes, I tried literally hundreds of drivers in Windows 7, plus re-installs, to no avail.

Internally, Windows 8 is a huge bit better. One install and everything worked perfectly. The new Windows 8 drivers installed without a hitch. The card slot now writes to the same card at 15MB/sec (3x faster), transfers TB's over USB3 without issue up to 150MB/sec, and the JMicro free fall system is working 100%. Also, all the CPU/GPU benchmarks seem to have gone up between 3-10%. Take it from me, one of the biggest Windows 8 haters that ever lived, one that still hates the "Modern" UI with passion enough to put Start8 and aero theme hacks back in. Outside, Windows 8 is worse than fisher-price garbage. Inside, Windows 8 is quite fine indeed.

It is a reg key change to get the start menu back. I don't know what the key name is, but the value is changed from a 1 to a zero. I've been searching for some time but have not found it yet. A person I know had a support tech from India working on his laptop and made the change for him.

This is most interesting news. We all did not know about a simple reg change. Are you sure it was from 1 to 0 or the other way? :laie:

    Start Menu

I believe it was because it was opposite of what I thought it would be.

He doesn't know what key it was. The guy from India was moving thru the registry at a fast clip making a lot of changes.

Why the hell do people even want a start button? You can already tab between desktop and the start menu by simply pressing your windows key. That's already a F***ing start button!

Don't flame people for wanting a start button or whatever, we all have our personal preference.
I love windows 8 but I don't use metro apps (ever) so for me the the new start screen is useless because all the apps on there would take me to the desktop anyway.
Boot to desktop with start button and old start menu for me ;)
