Hello all! I have a original Windows 8 Basic and just now i see this hasn't' RDP hosting. Is there any way to enable RDP on W8 Basic? (not alternative programs) Thank you very much.
But this was possible with Win 7. For example, Home Premium could be made to expose the RD server UI in system properties. The concurrent connection patch actually did it. In Win 8 (regular) is the code for RD actually gone rather than just disabled?
A search in Google returns numerous links showing that Windows 8 Basic contains no RDP code. Too bad the OP doesn't care for another solution. Teamviewer7 is a great app. I hope they reconsider.
Go ahead and post one of those numerous links, since I haven't found anything authoritative on the subject. Note that I'm not talking about the mere fact that only Pro/Enterprise have the feature exposed (there are numerous links about that), but that unlike Win 7, according to what you're saying, that someone has apparently used a disassembler or the like and found the RDP code to be missing and that there's nothing to be done about it. BTW, isn't termsrv.dll RDP code? So it has some....
h**p://winsupersite.com/windows-8/windows-8-tip-use-remote-desktop - Sorry, I feel like an idiot - I can't post links. Hell, I don't even know how to do linefeed <CR> in my posts. Even Microsoft states Win 8 Basic does not support being a RDP host.
That's the sort of article that I was referring to: it merely states that it's "not available" in the base edition. You're taking that in the fullest sense of the word, while I'm not until it's proven otherwise. That's not the sort of site that would be referring to the feature in any hacker-y kind of sense. That goes double for MS. It wasn't "available" in Windows 7 Home Premium either, right? Not exactly. It was, if you knew how to enable it.
Okay, you are correct. I have absolutely no way to prove that RDP hosting code doesn't exist in Windows 8 Basic. I was only stating what I found after doing a search in Google. If you choose not to believe or trust those results, I am good with that.
Guys, I know that sites like MS say that you can't. That much is clear. But since when do we stop there? If there was no precedent with Windows 7, then I'd be inclined to just stop here too, but there is precedent. There is an edition that did not include the feature but that with a simple change enabled the feature. I'm sure there are threads on this forum about it somewhere, in fact. I'm just wondering if the same thing is possible with Win8. Quoting MS isn't exactly saying much
In Windows Vista/7 Home Basic = NO RDP Windows XP Home = NO RDP Windows 8 Core (also called Basic) = NO RDP Home Premium, Professional, Pro, Ultimate, Enterprise = YES RDP In home premium were some need of tweaking which was need to be done In all that which couldn't run RDP, 3.party Remote Admin/Control apps would run
Yes, I remember that Windows 7 precedent and using it. Well, if someone does manage to employ RDP hosting in Win 8 Basic, I hope they share with us. One more point: There are a number of programmers out there who absolutely loath Microsoft and can't wait to prove they are incorrect about something that Windows does or doesn't do. I would think they would love to expose Microsoft on this issue.
it's interesting for me - in general in this situation what would be better, to re-install OS or try to find some related program?
I see this thread is not active for long time, but this post will be helpful for you: httр://forums.mydigitallife.net/threads/47610-How-to-crack-the-quot-termsrv-dll-quot-in-windows-8-1?p=929723&viewfull=1#post929723
type down remote instead of rdp and it will show up. if not consider using teamviewer or vnc. both are good.
