If you change your CPU that has PAE/NX/SSE2, you can install windows 8 on an old laptop. :)

search for "Successfully installed Windows 8 on Dell Latitude D600, solved PAE/NX/SSE2 problem"

I also got this blue screen on my old laptop from 2005-2006. Its CPU supports only SSE2.
So, I'm stuck with Windows 7 until I find a way to install and boot Windows 8 without PAE/NX/SSE2.

You might want to check if one of the below CPU can work on your laptop.
In my case with Dell D600, I had Intel Pentium M 725(1.6Ghz) and swapped with Intel Pentium M 770(2.13Ghz)

    Intel Celeron M 360/360J (Socket 479) 1.4 GHz 1 MB 21 Watt NX
    Intel Celeron M 370 (Socket 479) 1.5 GHz 1 MB 21 Watt NX
    Intel Celeron M 380 (Socket 479) 1.6 GHz 1 MB 21 Watt NX
    Intel Celeron M 390 (Socket 479) 1.7 GHz 1 MB 27 Watt NX
    Intel Pentium M 750 (Socket 479) 1.87 GHz 2 MB 27 Watt NX, ESS
    Intel Pentium M 760 (Socket 479) 2.00 GHz 2 MB 27 Watt NX, ESS
    Intel Pentium M 770 (Socket 479) 2.13 GHz 2 MB 27 Watt NX, ESS
    Intel Pentium M 780 (Socket 479) 2.26 GHz 2 MB 27 Watt NX, ESS

My old laptop currently have Intel Celeron M 360, in which it supports only SSE2. Not sure if others will be supported on it, and will supports PAE/NX/SSE2 though.

    It looks like only Intel Pentium M 750, 760, 770, 780 support (PAE/NX/SSE2)

    For Intel Celeron M 360, 360J, 370, 380, 390 support (NX/SSE2) but not (PAE)

You don't need to have PAE but you do need SSE-2. I have installed Win 8 on a desktop with P4 1.8 that did not have PAE or NX and it works fine. I also installed Win 8 on a Laptop that has a Centreno that does not have PAE or NX, was running XP pro. I also installed Win 8 core on old Laptop that I mod the BIOS.

If you need a Mod for your BIOS then send me your BIOS and all your Laptop info and I will try and mod it for you.
I will do my best to get it to work but no guaranty

    Not BS

What it does is show the CPU with NX support even if it does not have it.
Not hard to do. But what I also do if your board can support a CPU but there is no update for it anymore I can put coding in to have support.
Give me the spec of your system and I will see what I can do.

You say that it is not hard. If it is true, then it is a skill that I wish to acquire. Do you have instructions?
