Noticed a bit of behavior change in SPPSVC. If I stop it when trying to restore a backup, it restarts fast enough to stop me from deleting tokens.
I can quickly manually kill it again right before delete to get it working. Suggest it may be best to "Disable" the service in restore until it is needed on again.
Also, there is a "data.dat" alongside the OS tokens.dat. Its purpose or importance are unknown to me.
You've tried kill the EXE process of SPPSVC?
don't know if you noticed, the pidgenx.dll struct from CP is different than the DP
Yes, though its possible the kill happens fast enough after stopping that it hasn't started yet to kill. Manually killing it worked, though it is tough timing based on my current code.
One thing I noticed is there is some difference betweek a DP key check and CP Key check. Depending on which dll+pkeyconfig I use for W8, "Product Description" might say "Not found".
I hope it will be easy to activate once there is a tool.
I would think with 999 re-arms that an automatic re-arm script would work for most anyone.
I am sure a new OS will be along before that many re-arm is used up...
There are also two pkeyconfig files in CP, namely pkeyconfig.xrm-ms and pkeyconfig-csvlk.xrm-ms.
there were 2 as well in the DP
yup i am using the pidgenx.dll from 8102 and the xrm-ms files from 8250
Sorry for the thread revival.
I have been looking into this with the Release Preview and just for fun I tried to backup the activation information after activating Windows online. Somehow it doesn't seem to work anymore or I'm doing something wrong?
I tried to follow the Windows 7/Server 2008 R2 guide:
I know some things have changed but this have worked beautifully in Windows 7.
Anyone that have backed up and restored their activation information in Windows 8 RP?
Played around with it in offline mode did something like this.
Backup folders in activated state
stop software protection service
reinstall product key with -ipk
RP also has 1000 rearms.
Anyway, if we can't get Office 15 and W8 working activated, I'll open source MTK.
Release Preview has KMS capability with a KMS Key in products.ini (listed as a gvlk or something like that)
As does the CP, but it seems impossible to not get infinite 8000700D error, as in you can't activate either with KMSEmulator.
This failing is what I meant in the MTK topic, as KMS hasn't been working, so MS may have fixed it (or the activation is broken in the W8 build, as CP seemed broken).
This might have something to do with the fact that neither the RP nor the CP have grace periods on their activation, and re-arming doesn't do anything.
Dumb question: As I'm only just leaving XP and my new hardware comes with pre-installed OSes, this is an "academic" exercise for me.
Can someone perform a translation for "person who just walked in from the street" of CP, DP, KMS, DM, RP and "Pkeyconfig for CP"?
I note that the instructions given for the same issue with Win7 can be basically understood without having yet seen a Windows 7 disc. If there are instructions here for re-arming Win8, my sleep-deprived brain cannot interpret them.
Don't feel bad. I've been around for a little while, and I have no clue as to what that stuff means either.
