right click on computer icon and click on properties. then click on advanced system settings. now click on advanced button and then disable the option use drop shadow for icon labels.

^^ i am not sure which dword relates to the text color but it should present in the registry key mentioned in askvg article.

mmm, it will be easy to program that dialog in Windows 8 again to avoid editation of font metrics in hex format.

btw: In Windows 7, it can be started by something like:
    "C:\Windows\System32\rundll32.exe" shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL desk.cpl,Advanced,@Advanced
so maybe just copy shell32.dll, desk.cpl (and maybe one or two other dlls) from Windows 7 to separate directory on Windows 8 system and then try to load it that way. :))

^^ your idea is good but i hardly think it will work. i am also waiting someone for creating a portable tool providing a windows 7 style interface to change text font and color. it will not a difficult task for programmers. they just need to write app to change the registry keys mentioned in askvg article. i am not a programmer so cant make it.

Advice: Open shell32.dll and then also desk.cpl in pure text editor (like notepad, I use Notepad++) and search for: ".DLL" (without quotes), copy also those DLLs, you will find there...
...otherwise you will receive "can't be loaded" error probably.
