Here is my list of programs, which have problems under W8. Please add yours too with short description.

    1. OpenVPN v2-3 RC1 I002 and Beta1 I002 - OpenVPNGUI can't disconnect/terminate connection. Disconnecting/terminating OpenVPN v2-3 RC1 I003 and v2-2-2 works. But there is 2nd issue with OpenVPN from v2-3 RC1 I003 to v2-3-0 I004, there is the app-crash, when OpenVPN GUI tries to connect. OpenVPN v2-3-0 I005 includes new OpenVPN GUI v3 and works without crashes. Also OpenVPN v2-2-2 with OpenVPN GUI v1-0-3 works nicely.

    2. Intel Rapid Storage Technology v11-6-0-1030 - In AHCI mode with Mobile controller and eSATA connected drive it can't Safely Remove ANY hardware, it shows only "..." in tray instead hw to remove. Intel RST v12-0-0-1013 Beta works.

    3. LightScribe Control Panel + Diagnostic Utility v1-18-26-7 - It refuses to install. LightScribe v1-18-27-10 works.

    4. Comodo Firewall v5-10-228257-2253 - It refuses to install. There is new version Comodo Internet Security v5-12-55693-2551, which I didn't tested, as I've decided, that Windows 8 Internal Firewall is just sufficient for me.

    5. Google Drive v1-5-3449-3345 - It doesn't work with ReFS.

    6. Google Picasa v3-9-0-136-09-0 - It doesn't work with ReFS.

    7. DropBox v1-5-37 or 36 - No new files can be added, only shows "Indexing..." in tray. DropBox v1-4-19 or 20 works. Problem fixed in v1-5-40. However it still doesn't show Photos folder icon correctly.

    8. OGG v0-0-3-6 VFW (ACM) - Doesn't detect x64 system correctly, it copies x32 files to x64 dir and also messes the registry entries. Solution in thread...

    9. Lame MP3 v3-98-4 VFW (ACM) - Doesn't detect x64 system correctly, it copies x32 files to x64 dir and also messes the registry entries. Solution in thread...

    10. ZyXEL NetUSB Share Center v1-04c - Can't be runned just after installation, reboot is required unlike in W7, however applications will not mention it. Reports "Incomplete installation" after starting the application.

    11. MS Essentials 2012 v16-4-3503-0728 - Troubles locating own DLLs since \Program Files (x86)\Windows Live\Shared (and other two directories) aren't added to patch (variable). I dunno if it is fixed in v16-4-3505-0912. Solution in thread...

    12. MS Baseline Security Analyzer v2-2 - Isn't too much compatible with IE10. IE10 often crashes, when opens links "How to correct this" and "What was scanned" from MSBA. Also it tells "Automatic Updates are NOT enabled" while they are.

    13. MS Messenger 2012 v16-4-3503-0728 - In case, you want regular tray icon, you have to run it in Vista SP2 Compatibility mode. But if you do this, the app will just freeze in login phase. I dunno if it is fixed in v16-4-3505-0912. Solution in thread...

    14. Garmin Communicator Plugin v4-0-3 - It doesn't like IE10 too much. Many IE10 crashes, when detected the navigation device.

    15. Auslogics Registry Cleaner v2-4-0-10 - It doesn't remember last scan date, it always shows "never". Otherwise it works ok.

    16. Huawei 3G UMTS USB - After safe removal operation is done for SD card the safe removal tray icon doesn't disappear and shows three dots "..." instead the device.

    17. Realtek Diagnostic Utility v2-0-2-1 - it doesn't have W8 driver and it doesn't display Realtek NIC adapter.

    18. Realtek Diagnostic Utility v2-0-2-2 - it doesn't install properly a then it doesn't display anything. Solution in thread...

    19. Intel Centrino PROSet Wireless Bluetooth v2-6-1209-0256 Full W8 Driver. It doesn't install properly. Solution in thread...

    20. Intel Centrino PROSet Wireless Bluetooth v2-6-1210-0279 Full W8 Driver. It doesn't install properly. Solution in thread...

    21. Media Player Classic - Home Cinema v1-6-4-6052. It tries to install x64 version to x32 program files even if x32 version is already installed there.

    22. Google Earth v7-0-1-8244 Beta and v6-2-2-6613. After exiting the program there is an error message that file myplaces.kml.tmp can't be created. Solution in thread...

    23. VMware Workstation v9-0-0-812388. It can't be installed on MS Hyper-V enabled system. Shame...

    24. Oracle VirtualBox v4-2-4-81684. There is only single CPU support, also no x64 system templates are available and hw acceleration VT-x/AMD-V is missing too. Also the virtual network card can cause freezing when Windows 8 boot (logo phase with rotating circle).

    25. Trillian v5-2-0-13. It can't connect to Skype, because skypekit.exe crashes silently. It happens after the two monster updates of the last month. Version v5-3-0-9 Beta works.

    26. FFDShow rev4494 clsid x64. FFDShow VFW x64 window doesn't appear.

    27. MS Office 2013 x64. FIRSTRUN.EXE crashes in 2nd dialog window.

    28. O2 SMSender v1-86. Start menu shortcut for main EXE isn't created. Switching to another languages doesn't work.

    29. Cryptload v1-1-8 crashes (fortunately only once) just after installation and 1st online update.

    30. FFDShow rev4496 - x64 VFW Settings (yellow icon) can't be runned.

    31. Toaster v0-7-8 - The colors (foreground, background and font) can't be set.

    32. MS Live Essentials Account Sign-in Assistant v6-5 can't be installed, so MS Games for Windows Live v3-5-89-0 doesn't work.

    33. Windows Mobile Device Center v6-1-6965 includes library RAPI.DLL, which crashes while Windows Media Player x64 is launched.

    34. Piriform Recuva v1-45-858 - It doesn't support ReFS.

Here are the bugs of the W8 system itself:

    A. When I select theme in Personalization and then change wallpaper, sometimes modified theme isn't correctly saved as Custom.theme, so I have to do that twice. When you do more changes in themes, sometimes picture previews aren't correctly displayed in the themes grid (they are missing), also once it ended with explorer.exe termination. It looks like fixed with KB2756872 pack.

    B. When you switch from AHCI or IDE or RAID, it isn't no longer sufficient just to enable drivers "Msahci", "iaStorV" and "PciIde" (and then change controller type in BIOS). BTW: "Msahci" is no longer there (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services).

    C. Windows 8 has very strange problem with Safe-removal of some peripherals. With some of them, it just displays three dots "..." in system tray instead name of HW to remove. I am still investigating the issue...

    D. Windows 8 shutdowns so forcefully, that some programs (even explorer.exe) can't handle it and display "memory can't be written" dialog box error.

    E. If user enables IE10 Enhanced Protection Mode (x64) but disables UAC, he will get just x32 IE tabs (not x64 as proclaimed).

    Here are another issues:

    I. Windows Update doesn't update Windows Defender to version 4.2, while there is already version 4.2 of MSSE for ages.

Note: For some problems, there ARE the solutions inside this thread... ...just browse it.

    My List of incompatible software:

-Intel Turbo Boost Technology Monitor 2.6 -- not compatible with Windows 8 error
-PerfectDisk Professional 12.5 Build 311 (MP1 is coming soon with compatibility of Windows 8, but currently it is incompatible) -- PerfectDisk Professional 12.5 Build 312 has came and it is compatible with Windows 8. This is my favourite on-demand defragmenter (I dislike automatic defragmentation...)
-EAZ-FIX Pro 9.1.x / RollBack Rx Professional 9.1.x -- not compatible with Windows 8 error
-Shadow Defender 1.1.0.325/326/331 -- can't be installed. Tony has been found and an update is expected with Windows 8 compatibility...
-Deep Freeze Standard 7.22.020.3453 -- 'can be installed only on xp, vista and 7' message
-Returnil System Safe Free 2011 3.2.12918.5857-REL14 -- not compatible
-Virtual PC 2007 SP 1 -- MS has dropped support for it
-Many Firewall tools including Privatefirewall 7.0.28.1 and Comodo FW 5.10.228257.2253 -- Compatibility issues. MS has blocked installation
-McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.8 -- Not compatible error
-Online Armor Free 6.0.0.1736 -- Not compatible message. Update is expected soon
-SpyShelter Personal Premium 6.1 -- Not supported OS
-Many drivers including Bluetooth, Wifi, Intel RST, etc. Some companies has released drivers for Windows 8 like Intel, AMD and Nvidia but they are not perfect yet. On Windows 8 x64, Nvidia Optimus always shows error on fresh install/upgrade on different laptop models (GeForce M500 series).

Majority of security software like AV, FW, HIPS will not install on Windows 8 unless vendors release updated versions. Other software which check minor version number too on installation (6.2.xxxx) may not work on Windows 8 (depends on vendor options in case of different minor number, some abort installation while some issue warning...)

Well, I don't care about MS list, because majority are the obsolete apps I don't use... :)

...BTW: You have posted the list for W7 :D

I don't test for MS, as they still didn't figure out, that beta testers should be payed and supported more nicely... :) I only pointed that your long list of "useful" incompatible apps belongs to your beloved W7. :)

Hm, I'd reactivated it with the method, you did before updating the driver :D

You can get around that :) but that said, it's not an issue either. They can't use that info for anything that can get back to you. The only time that it can is if the error report shows something that could be an issue for national security, and even then it has to be something that gives them a very good reason.

It happens when you do hardware changes. If you use KMS, just point resolver to valid KMS with
    slmgr /skms legal.kms.com
and then send activation request by:
    slmgr /ato

Maybe he just opened gift package with pre-activated new computer? :)

W8 is more sensitive than W7. You can lose your W8 activation sometimes even when you move/insert partitions on the same disk, i.e. without hardware changes. Happened to me on two different machines. Never experienced this effect with XP or W7.

My W8 just do "slmgr /ato" automatically, when activation is broken, so the unactivated win is visible for 5 seconds or so.

OK, I hope they enjoy dumps from MPC-HC or Zoom Player, when "Gangbang Competition.avi" is played... :)

Fraps (current version: 3.5.9) doesn't show counter and is unable to record gameplay footage for any DX10 game. DX9 and 11 work fine.

After contacting support they said that an update to fix this is on the way.

I'm pretty sure you can block that kind of behaviour with a firewall. Not Windows'.

You have to check from within Windows 8! If you run Windows 7 and search you'll get Windows 7 Apps only!
