I have a workhorse windows 8 highly configured for my audio video editing. Its Adobe CC got corrupt, so I need to format the PC. I have Windows 8 ultimate 64 bit installed with key there, which I bought it from Microsoft. Now that I m going to format it, how do I get my serial number again ? And where do I enter it ? Will it accept it ?
Windows 8 Ultimate. Which version is that. Anyway as pointed out, use Advanced Tokens Manager to backup first your licence and then restore on fresh install. I use it and it has never failed me. To use it 1 create a folder on your disk 2 put ATM in that folder 3. then run ATM. It will make a backup and ask for you key 4 then restore later by running ATM from the same folder. MTK 2.4.9 also works perfectly and I use both to create 2 backups from 2 programs just in case.
1. Where do I download ATM ? 2. I bought the license from a friend, who had the keys in in MSDN. So, I dont have the keys anymore, after I entered it while installation.
How is that possible? Did he give you the key on a piece of paper which then had been eaten or set on fire for safety reasons? Your key should be in the email your friend sent you.
So just keep a backup through ATM and then while installation Windows 8 , use it to restore key ? but as far as I remember, windows 8 installation dont proceed without entering the key in the installation screen ?
If you check the config.ini file it creates when doing the backup you can see your key, and the actual program should display the key once you asked to backup. Write it down, print it or memorize it. Make sure you do all this before you re-install your Windows 8... put ATM in a USB stick so you wont loose it once you re format your HDD.....
Use trial or generic key during install and then use ATM to restore. You can also use trial key for office 2010. Office 2013 does not require a key to proceed to install.
I am sure about the Office 2010 technet iso which requires a key to install. Have not installed office 2013 technet iso for some time so your info could be correct. Will check next time. However, in both cases, I use trial keys and then restore activation. Restoring is important for me for office 2013 since I have only 2 technet keys. For office 2010, I have 12 for pro and 12 for standard. Still I restore. I am not sure if posting of trial keys is allowed for win 8 and office.
