I am running windows 8 ent x64 and my mpg video files appear as an icon instead of a preview!

Windows 7 has no problems displaying the mpg thumbnail previews....can it be that MS removed the MPG decoders since windows 8 ent has no support for media center?

    Install
    K-Lite_Codec_Pack_930_x32
    then
    K-Lite_Codec_Pack_930_x64
when installing use the advanced option and turn on thumbnail view
for all media and turn off icon view

Screenshot mpeg2 mgeg2.jpg I have done a clean install today with just those codecs and its working for me.
    I grabbed a sample mpeg2 file here - w w w.snapstream.com/enterprise/samples.asp
and it shows up as below

You can try under All Apps in the Start menu screen for Codec Tweak Tool (if you dont have that shortcut on your desktop or elsewhere handy)
it has a thumbnail settings that may be able to help you out

Install both x86 and x64 K-lite codec (BASIC). I used to use the mega but had problems in generating preview for files such as .mpg, .flv, .mp4.....
Since I used BASIC k-lite codecs both x86 and x64, all has been well....
When installing, there are three options, use the simple method....
