I tried to fix my touchpad by installing a firmware update from HP. It failed and now it doesn't get detected at all. How do I fix it? there has to be a way.
No I don't mean driver update, it says it is a FIRMWARE update. Here is a link to the HP page with the download. (replace hxxp with http) hxxp://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-112546-1&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&os=4132&product=5272093&sw_lang= Now it says "no touchpad detected" when I run it and the touchpad doesn't work at all. Here is a screenshot of the "not found" box.
I did need the firmware update because otherwise the mouse pointer is WAY too sensitive (and erratic) under Windows 8. BRB Trying safemode now.
OK I'm in safe mode and its not working, it still says that there is no touchpad and the mouse still fails.
Hmm, you've runned Synaptics_firmware_win8_v16-2-14-0.exe probably. Well, just run another file SynapticsReflash_v16-2-12-3.exe to downgrade again.
I can send these files to you, if you can't find them: "sp59579.exe" from HP just extracts to "Synaptics_firmware_win8_v16-2-14-0.exe" (under different name but same size and content)... ...however I got "SynapticsReflash_v16-2-12-3.exe" from elsewhere probably... hmmm...
You have to run it with specific driver installed 1st (I think it is driver v15-2-20 or v16-2-21)... ...you have to find, which driver is correct to running FW update... ...also look to device manager if "Mouse Device" (PS/2) is still there...
I already installed the drivers, it didn't work. EDIT: OK I found an unknown device in the Device Management called ACPI\SMB0001 and Google says its called "Synaptics SMBUS Controller" does this have anything to do with a Synaptics touchpad?
Try to assign driver to it by selecting update driver and pointing to Synaptic driver INF file. After the firmware update, the old device in Device Manager is scrapped and new one is created. Reinstalling driver is required...
