    Hello everyone,

Yesterday, I fired up windows update as usual, and it came up with the updates to install for Sept 2013 ( I have selected to manually install updates). Naturally, I let that process go along, but when installing the updates, the system suddenly became non-responsive (I was a bit worried, but decided to proceed) After a while of non-responsiveness, I had to manually reset the system power in order to find out the issue. After I logged into windows, There were a variety of system changes which got me worried. Most of the Executables in System32 folder like On-Screen Keyboard, Add Windows Features and Command Prompt have lost their Microsoft Authentication Signatures (It says Unknown Publisher when UAC activates). Onscreen Keyboard, which i used a lot is nonfunctional ( Untitled.png )

To resolve this issue, I checked System Restore, It had no restore points previous to that day (I had set a minimum of 1% space for restore points :(), So, next I tried sfc /scannow...It ran and came up with integrity violations but unable to correct them, Next, I tried rebuilding the system image through DISM by Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth, since i suspected a component store corruption for the inability of correction. However, it also returned with the error 3017.

I have exhausted out of all my options, my only choice left (reluctantly) is that of a reinstall, or to preserve my data by performing a Windows Upgrade.

Is there any other way to save my installation or that the Windows Reinstall/Repair is inevitable ??
    :(:weep:

Wow, this is very strange. I had my own problems with windows update after installing Office 2013, but nothing close to this.

After yesterday's update, Outlook 2013 was not working properly on Windows 8. I uninstalled the update only for outlook 2013 and everything was fine.

You should never stop updating process that way.

If updates are no longer on the list to be installed I believe you'll need to reformat.

U guys talking about win8 updates or office 2013? If the latter did u custom install2013,another terms did u elect to not install any components of off 2013.
i am asking, coz if you say install off 2013 without say Access or lync and you try to install updates for them, it will fail.

Must either fully install off2013 or deselect the inappropriate updates.
    Just a thought..

I installed office 2013 without Outlook. Had a brief windows update bug (possibly the same 8000FFFF error). Resolved it by restarting PC, switching windows update settings to "Windows only", checking for updates and installing defender definitons, switching back to "windows and other products", checking for updates and installing all office updates.
