Based on my tests, speed between W7 and 8 is almost the same: W7 boots in12 s,W8 the same; W7 shuts dows in 4 s,W8 (with hybrid boot enabled,I don't tried classic boot) shuts down in 10 sec;wake-up from sleep,W8 1sec,w7 in 3sec ;from hibernate W8 is ready to go in 12 sec,W7 the same. These are my measurements, based on 2 laptops with same configuration.
What the hell those times for power up, shut down etc. really say's? NOTHING! What count's for me isn't those timing, it's the stability and work under normal daily conditions. And here is were Windows 8 is just better than Windows 7! I really don't mind if the machine needs 10sec or 2min to start up, or fast shut down etc. etc.! I don't sit there ans switch on and off the machine the whole day, I just need to get it start up and than just work until the day is over or the work is done. There it doesn't matter if the boot or shutdown time is short or not! Fine if someone like to switch on and off the computer the whole day! But what you guy's are doing with computer mainly? Count that timing? Or what else? Sorry I don't have some understanding for that!
I wonder what these are exactly. To quote Dr. Breen, "Can you even name one thing?". Could you please list some things where Windows 7 makes daily work harder than Windows 8? Could you please list a few stability issues all people using the OS have?
MS Excel 2010 and 2013! Using huge worksheet's with more than 100MB in size and start filtering, the time for that process reduced by app. 30% in ver. 2010 and 40% in ver. 2013! MS Word also works faster in Windows 8, special but limited to startup and close etc.! If you want to see more, just do your own testing. I and also my staff and customers are NOT gamers etc, we just using computer for real work. And here we could tell: Windows 8 works faster, more stable and smooth.
It's not exclusive to Windows-8, but it seems to be much better implemented straight out of the box. I use the same apps etc. and didn't apply any tweaks so far. For an example: I download via SABnzb or TurboFTP and my full band-wide (~1.3 MB/s DL) will be used. If I open now Chrome (38 pages open), then my DL-Speed goes down to ~0.9-1.0 MB/s and I'm able to browse the web relatively fast. If I did the same within Windows-7, then my DL-Speed went down maybe 0.1 MB/s, which was far to less for browsing the web. To make it clear, I didn't apply any changes to QoS or something similar. This experience is for Windows-7 and Windows-8 straight out of the box.
Automatically redial function removed from Windows 8! Solution: "ReConnect v1.5" if you use broadband or dialup internet (PPPOE): softpedia.com/get/Internet/Other-Internet-Related/ReConnect.shtml
