Hi. I have a Desktop and Notebook with Windows 8.1 installed. Both with original license. Until August 6th, Windows Defender was updating their antivirus definitions. But, since that day it stopped updating. I tried WU and Windows defender but both doesn´t show any updates. Even manual updates downloaded from the Microsoft Website don´t install. It stopped updating with definition version: 1.155.1620.0. I didn´t use my notebook since August 4th.Today I updated my virus definitions and they were only updated to definition 1.155.1620.0. Since then, No more updates. But using Microsoft Security Essentials is updating normally. Can someone confirm if the virus definitions really stopped on August 6th? Here in Brazil I asked a friend who is also using Windows 8.1, and with him it stooped udating August 6th.
YES. Same situation with me too. I am in Thailand. Could anybody tell us why this sudden development?
I've disabled Defender so, no problem for me(!) in Thailand! Serious, I didn't use any AV Apps on my Home Computer but I use Smoothwall Express Firewall which is deeply configured. I hadn't had any Virus Problems on my Home since I use that configuration a few years. If I think I need to check, I download the latest version of Cure IT from Freedrweb.com and use that, which has found not more that 10 Trojans and Downloaders over those few years!
I just checked on my Laptop where Defender is still running on Windows 8.1. Latest Update were 3 days ago, Database Virus and Definition version: 1.155.1620.0 While check and click Update, the slider starts going to right app. 10% and than jumps back to main screen of Update. I'm connected to TRUE with Cable Modem.
I never experienced this myself, but I heard of a similar problem in 9385, I have a little tool that fixes it for 9385, but I have no idea whether it will work in the Preview, I'll contact the developer to find out more, stay tuned!
Guys, just use the Avast free antivirus...it's great, light on the resources & a lot better in protecting your PC than Windows Defender & it works perfectly with Windows 8 now
