Windows Developer Preview Build 8102 Classic Interface (Metro Interface Compeletey Disabled): For people who do not like or who hate the Windows 8 Metro Interface, here is the small registry tweak to completely disable the Metro interface and you will get the classic logon, startmenu, explorer like Windows 7. But you will lose the new Ribbon Explorer and the Task Manager. So, here's the registry tweak: Code: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer] "RPEnabled"=dword:00000000 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced] "SHSXSWasEnabled"=dword:00000000 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer] "RPInstalled"=dword:00000000 "RPEnabled"=dword:00000000 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer] "RPEnabled"=dword:00000000 "RPInstalled"=dword:00000000 [HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer] "RPEnabled"=dword:00000000 [HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-18\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer] "RPEnabled"=dword:00000000 [HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-2324789345-590912973-2211675419-500\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer] "RPEnabled"=dword:00000000 [HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-2324789345-590912973-2211675419-500\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced] "SHSXSWasEnabled"=dword:00000000 View attachment DisableMetro.zip Note: Changing the settings for System (S-1-5-18) and Administrator (S-1-5-21-*-500) will enable the Normal Logon/Logoff screen like the one in Windows 7. To enable Normal OOBE Setup screens you need to use the registry script in the $oem$\$$\Setup\Scripts\oobe.cmd. Finally after the OS gets installed and logs on to the desktop, just re-run the registry tweak to get this final output..
First people want to unlock everything in the leaked Windows 8 builds. And now that we have an official build, people are actually disabling everything again?
Why would you change the settings for System (S-1-5-18) and Administrator (S-1-5-21-*-500)? Can you clarify this?
In my experience, thus far, it allows me another way to switch running apps. Just toss your mouse cursor over to the left of the screen. Pull an app out. If it's not the one you want, put it back and pull the next one out - it'll be there. As I mentioned, you haven't played with the Metro UI enough yet.
Well, after modifying the registry with several combination.. i got this setting.. changing the settings for System and Administrator will get you the Normal Logon/Logoff screen like the one in Windows 7. also you will get the Normal OOBE screen.. i used this registry setting in the $oem$\$$\Setup\Scripts\oobe.cmd and also after the os got installed to get this final output..
This is what I call a waste of time. M$ needs customers that are willing to waste their time trying their 'products'. You need to unlock to have a look what M$ has done at w8. Then you need to lock it again since you notice that all what they have done is not needed or useless... W8 will be as useless as Vista has been. W7 is a fine OS!
Looks like we will be sticking to 7 for quite a long time. By 'we' I mean those who just want a stable OS (as stable as Windoze is ever going to be) to work on. I wouldn't move to a new OS just to say "I got the latest"; instead the argument should be more like "what extra does it offer that I could use?". At this stage, I can't really say that 8 is doomed to have the same destiny as Vista, but certainly didn't worth all that fuss IMHO. Time will tell
@MSMG, May you should add this information in your initial post. It will explain to alot of people why this is needed.
