In the last few days I've noticed a problem when opening folders, sometimes when I open one the navigation pane doesn't open correctly and I'm missing folders and the whole of This pc. other times I'm not getting icons for files and folders. You can see what I mean in the images below I have tried running my antivirus in a full scan and I have also tried malwarebytes, and CCleaner but to no avail. Oh I have also tried SFC /scannow which came up with errors but couldn't repair them and I am not sure what to do with that information should I be in safemode when running it? Can someone help please?
Thanks but The sfc /scannow I have restarted numerous times and tried in safe mode but nothing has changed still have the same problem. Thanks KNARZ I've just tried what you suggested but I am still getting the issues.
Try refreshing you pc it's an option (you need the dvd used for installation), do a backup of your personal files before.
I've tried doing an update over the top of 8.1 instead so that I could keep my files but still have the same problem, the reason I didn't do a refresh is that due to my interests I have waaay to much stuff on here to be able to back up at the moment.
I believe if you boot into win8.1 setup and choose the "Repair your computer" option, you can fix this. I'm not certain how it works, sorry, but worth a try...
Delete thumbnail and icon cache Make sure there is not any corrupted files inside one of the library folders Make sure Explorer is not running as Admin, open task manager and right click explorer > restart
When I goto open the log file created by sfc /scannow it comes up access denied then opens up a blank notepad file. I've tried the thumbnail and icon cache thing, I've looked into windows error reporting this afternoon and there is a lot of errors picked up by that mainly DistributedCom 10010, but a load of services failed to start.
I've got a load of DistributedCOM entries too, all from Bing Weather app and Twitter app Run the refresh feature, it'll keep your files and clean install windows but you'll have to reinstall your programs
