I am running Windows XP Pro SP3 on an Abit IP35 Pro MB. I believe I am using a corporate key. When turn my computer on, I get a big box with a notification that MS wants me to run Genuine Advantage. I click on the “X” in the top right and go on with my business. As there some way I can get rid of this notification without modifying my bios which really scares me? I’ve been reading through the forum but I’m unfamiliar with some of the terminology. I was able to install Win 7 just for fun on an old drive and use a loader to validate (using the superb four part instructions from opa). Is there something similar that I can follow for win xp? Thanks!
Adding an SLP to the DMI is not really a bios mod and requires no flash. Just use the DMI cd in the stickies and take it from there. It really is safe..
Thanks for your reply 911medic, unfortunately, I'm still confused, but enjoying the learning process. I have an Award Bios v6. I downloaded dmitattoo SP27608. Now what do I do? I've read read as much as I can but still don't get it - sorry. Also, can you confirm that none of this will change my bios or prevent me from installing windows 7 on a new drive. Thanks.
It will not change the bios. DMI is not the same as a BIOS mod..You can dual boot any you want.. The ISO is easier if you have a CD/DVD rom..just burn the ISO and boot to it. The USB version is simply if you dont have a cd rom to use.. You need to set the first boot device to CD/DVD
That's all I have to do - boot the cd rom with dmitattoo SP27608? Seems too easy. You also mentioned adding as SLP - what is an SLP - I realize I'm sounding a bit stupid. Would it be possible to give me a step-by-step, or give me a link to a step by step? Thanks again
SLP is short for the type of activation. You add a text string to the DMI, in this case Hewlett-Packard, and it allows activation with the correct oembios files and serial key. Just run the HP tattoo disk from the stickies and you should have the HP string in the DMI area. otherwise you can add others with a bios mod. It all comes down to having the string in the proper address range.
911medic - help! I downloaded the disk and booted it. I ran option #1 and rebooted from my HDD. System information now shows Hewlet Packard as the OEM manufacturer. I installed Windows updates now I get this message. This copy of Windows did not pass genuine validation. The product key found on this computer is a Volume License Key (VLK) that has been blocked.
911medic - you are awesome! I'm not exactly sure what I did as I tried so many things but it seemed to work (I wish I has written a very simple step-by-step guide for newbies like myself). At least I am not getting the "This copy of Windows did not pass genuine validation. The product key found on this computer is a Volume License Key (VLK) that has been blocked." I am now asked if I want to install Windows Genuine Advantage Notification (KB905474). What should I do?
Install it..Look at the system properties and see if the number is OEM..If the OEMBIOS changer worked as it should, you are genuine...
Amazing... thank you so much for all your help!!! Although I had some very frustrating moments, I (especially considering the end result) thoroughly enjoyed this. Have a great evening!
