Windows Home Server Vail works with RemoveWAT. RemoveWAT crashes dashboard.exe has anyone found a work around for this? Is there a different method to activate?
You have 1 day until Vail TRIES to activate. When this fails you have probably 28 days left. And rearm should work, giving you 180 days in all.
Yeah, sorry rearm worked. Glad to see im not the only one with broken dashboard and removewat just use restore wat and itll get rid of the watermark still but fix dashboard.
I have managed to activate "Vail"... 1) Add a v2.1 SLIC to your bios 2) Use your favorite Windows 7 activator to install the certificate that matches the SLIC you have installed 3) Use your favorite Windows 7 activator to change the product key to a valid Windows Server 2008 R2 OEM Key 4) reboot your machine. Your home server will then be activated, and everything functions correctly.
I have Dell 2.1 slic and cert installed, now the problem is none of the oem keys from this site will work. can you provide the last set of your key used?
I used and Acer SLIC and cert, and used W7LXE to manually insert the Dell D7TCH key for Windows Server 2008 R2. My system shows that the installed edition is ServerHomePremiun activated as ServerStandard.
That's strange. I used a Dell SLIC & cert with the Dell D7TCH- key - but Vail came back with a message like: not a home server key
same thing here, I cant get it to activate and it is a proper 2.1 and cert as i had windows 7 activated using the same files.
@cybrmage your Method works like a charm Dell slic 2.1 with dell cert and Dell D7TCH- key installed with loader extreme edition 3.118 by Napalum. Server is activated Thanks tester0077
Yes, I was lazy and used online activation - and the simple slmgr -ipk <key> does not work either. But now Vail is activated.
Very odd how does this install the key? It does work but am curious how it does it different than using ipk, or windows activation.
Has anyone got Vail to activate and still keep remote desktop operational - I have tried several times no matter which activation method remote desktop is broken
tried using HAL 7600 on WHS2011 build 7601 and it did not work. All it did was give me a black screen after rebooting after HAL 7600 install. Closest i got to making it work was when WHS2011 kept on looping trying to do REPAIR/RECOVER mode. this happened after i put in REGISTRATION keys. testing WHS2011 on a VM btw.
??? use the "VAIL" version and not the current "WHS 2011" version? i thought there is a difference between the two? with the former version SCRAPPED and the latter as the one they are going to do a FINAL release on?
If the current release build 7601 is used when RTM final is released it may not be possible to do an upgrade install = waste of time and effort to get it working in the first place. Current vail key expires on 1st August, I just wondered if anyone had managed to get vail to activate so is not time bombed and yet keep remote access working ?
My Remote website works now. I have Verizon Fios (fiber to home) w/ the ActionTec MI424-WR router. I had to reset the router (to defaults), forward 2 ports, turn-on UPnP & setup a static IP addy in the WHS 2011 control panel. It does work fine now w/ the WHS 2011 @homeserver.com url I got early on the testing of WHS.
Hello, I am new to the forum (hence this is post #1) so I hope you can help. I didn't even know about SLIC until yesterday so please forgive the extremely noobish questions. I just recently got a new motherboard (ASUS P5G41T-M/CSM) and I have the Vail RC installed and activated using the key I received from MS Connect. I want this to not expire so I am trying to follow you instructions here to make it a Windows Server 2008 R2 OEM key. I think I can figure out that point without a problem but my question is does the SLIC 2.1 need to exactly the same model of the motherboard? I found an SLIC 2.1 for ASUS P5G41T-M LX2 but the suffix is different. Do the SLIC's need to be exactly the same (including the suffix)? Thanks in advance for your help.
