Long time reader but first time poster and I see a bunch of WHS request. This is a great tutorial, I have been running it for 4 months now with this method. No BIOS mods needed. All updates work fine. Not sure if this has been posted before or not. Hope this helps someone. Google "Windows Home Server VLK {hacked} Edition" and the guide was made by digital pimp. Can't post links yet. Enjoy! Luis
Very welcome! This forum gets better each day. For those who use newsgroups and want to try this out in a vm before making there own, it is posted on alt.binaries.cd.image. The key is in the root of the iso in a folder called dp. NZB is called : WHS_VLK_EDITION_01_51_-_Windows_Home_Server_VLK_V1.0_digitalPimple.com_.sfv_yEnc.nzb Have a good one and enjoy. Luis
If anyone tests this one, does it contain any other changes (e.g. SIF file settings, or extra components), or is it a clean change following the DP instructions?
Thanks. Since I already made a VLK version on WHS, I will use existing files and give the xfiles vlk a shot. Will post back. Good link! Thanks again. Luis
sorry for the nub question but is it possible for the vlk key to get blacklisted? I'm very interested in this method since i can't for the life of me get a slp 1.0 into my asus m4a785-m.
Its not a noob question, thats why where all here to help each other. At some point in time possibly. But if you provide your own server key you should be fine. I used the key that came with the image info I posted above and been running it without issue for months without issues. Hope this helps you. Luis
It worked fine for me. I did have to activate it, but everything went fine there since the Windows Server 2003 key from dreamspark is valid and the activation files from 2003 were placed into WHS.
Is there a way convert a already installed untouched MSDN install of WHS using my VLK key? I already installed WHS and have 2 weeks left. but cant find an MSDN key that will activate it. I have a legit (non-public) 2003 VLK Key but it didnt work. ~MC
Of course, but you have to convert it yourself. Their distro is NOT warez, it is just a MSDN version modified, so it auto installs other bits during setup, but you need your own key for it sebus
a better ISO for keyholders? What about this below from the MS website? I too have a 2003 key and do not wish to do it again. Maybe we need an ISO that is not for a 30 day trial. If so where is an ISO download for installing non-trial WHS? "A move to the full retail version of the product requires a complete reinstall of the software and not an in-place upgrade. This means you will need to go through configuration and backup steps one more time. We suggest that you backup your files to an external hard drive before performing a complete reinstall. While we recognize that this may be inconvenient for customers, the technicalities of the current product prevent us from allowing an in-place upgrade."
