Everybody claims it was easy to activate a Win7 copy with a loader - really?

I tried out several loaders, the latest being Open 7 but still can't activate. After restart my Win7 shows "not registered", and that after I used several prescribed methods. Running out of luck, patience and so on ...

Reading all of the help file, I still don't know what the SLIC is all about. Open 7 tells me I have no SLIC present. I really don't have the slightest idea how to go on and successfully use this activator to finally get my copy activated.

Is anybody out there able and willing to get this dummy on track?

    THX for the help!

oh, I forgot to mention: after I got my Win7 copy I was able to activate it using WinLoader. After a complete Win7 reinstall was necessary I never was able to reactivate it.

Perhaps you should consider flashing a modded BIOS.

After that you merely need to install the corresponding Certificate and a OEM:SLP ProductKey, which is very easy to do.

Also, with the SLIC Table permanently inserted into the BIOS itself, reinstalls are becoming less painfull as well.

If want to find out whether there already is a modded BIOS for your mainboard simply have a look in the BIOS Mods forum.

You can also make a request there in case there is no mod for your mainboard yet.

Yeah - it is pretty easy to activate Windows 7 with a loader - I have never had a failure with 7 - a few problems with Vista in the past but none with 7 - OK the WAT update spotted old loader versions but they still activated.

So something is getting in the way - either the loader install isn't working properly or the loaders you've tried are not that good.

Daz's loader works well - try it.

The thing that makes PC's different to others is there are heaps of hardware combinations and often driver conflicts so someone having difficulty with a loader is really no surprise.

The SLIC is a "table" of information contained in the BIOS of a motherboard in a computer made by HP, Dell etc - most commonly laptops.

The information in the table confirms that the computer is eligible for "offline" activation - that is it does not need to activate over the net.

Windows checks the SLIC info, looks for a certificate and the correct serial key - if all match up OK it considers it is genuine and "activates" itself

Unless you have a HP or a Dell or a Acer or ... you will probably not have a genuine SLIC present.

The loader loads Windows for you AND loads the SLIC table into memory so when Windows checks it is fooled into thinking it is in the BIOS when in reality it is not. Once fooled Windows checks to see if the proper certificate is installed and if the serial key matches the version of windows.

    If all good - activated.

If you can't get a loader to work you may have real trouble with a BIOS mod - they can result in your BIOS being unable to even POST - don't let the nay sayers scoff at this - IT DOES HAPPEN.

So - I'd ask for help with Daz's loader first - oh and backup a working system it is easier to restore than re-install.

And always remember - if it ain't broke don't fcuk with it.

    Thanks Rosco,

your info on that activation process is valuable to me. Hints from others that say "mod your BIOS" don't get me going much. My PC is a self-built with an ASUS motherboard. I don't think it qualifies to be in that new slick SLIC-BIOS category as it is 5 years old. So your hint telling me to try the DAZ loader will be my next step.

I am just a bit curious as to why that PC accepted the first loader activation without any glitch and all subsequent tries are complete failures.

Well, if the DAZ loader won't work I'll see what's next in store.

Again, thanks for your help, Rosco

If and I say if DAZ loader won't work then there is an alternative option for you, Chew7 which is hardware independent.
It works pretty well and passes alomst every check there is. 1.0 will soon be released so stay tuned.
