Windows Maps

    is anyone aware you can backup and restore your downloaded maps? i thought that was cool,
    seeing as there's still no way to backup apps / games from the store...atleast something can be backed up thats from the store.

    all you need to do is make a copy of;

    ProgramData\MapData
    AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.WindowsMaps_8wekyb3d8bbwe

    tested on vmware and copied my maps across (25gb the whole world)
    copied over the settings folder

    disconnected from the internet and tried the maps app and boom, worked like a charm

    will work as long as;

    1. copy to original programdata location
    2. or change where maps are located (different drive) and copy them there

    Thanks for the info...

    In my case, Tomtom and Garmin handle the maps :D

    Why back up free offline maps ? - you can always download them again, to have updated offline maps (any maps world wide). Btw, I would not trust Google applied for offline maps :p

    guessed you missed the part where i said a complete download of the world map is 25gb, i'm on 70mbps but it still took a while to download.
