I haven't used one, but heard it is s**ttier than Small Buisnesss, has all limited functionality. "Windows Server 2008 R2 Foundation is designed for small businesses of 15 users or fewer, who do not necessarily require the whole suite of features that come with Windows Small Business Server but want a lower-cost alternative that offers file and print sharing, remote access, and security features.

I believe there is not known SLP OEM key for R2 yet, but licensing is exactly the same way as any other version SLIC 2.1 + SLP OEM key + certificate

that's exactly what i needed to know. so that means it already has the SLIC 2.1 and i can just install any other version

It should, they could of course use OEM NONSLP key that requires phone activation, but unlikely

    Hi joo nam,

When you get the server, could you upload a copy of the OS, please.
I've been looking for a copy of 'Foundation Server' since it was first released. :)

It has to be a Dell BIOS to activate with the key provided in this thread. First I tried to install the Foundation server on a VMware pc with an Acer BIOS, and the activation failed. As soon as I changed the BIOS to a DELL BIOS, the server was automatic activated. Both BIOS was SLIC 2.1
So this key IS brand specific.

SLIC 2.1 + OEM SLP key + certificate corresponding to the key = ACTIVATED

Of course you could not activate with Acer BIOS & Dell certificate

    Key is NOT manufacturer specific!

Why? You can use the HP Cert & SLIC and use the DELL key

Trying to install a clean version of HP 2008 R2 Foundation on a MSI mb which already has slic 2.1 in bios. What is required to install? I am getting "This system is not supported platform" when booting from the disc, I assume it's due to MSI AMI bios. It is an oem HP disk with a legitimate key. I have tried installing it on a HP dc5800 workstation and it installs without any problems but it does say that it needs to be activated within 30 days. Help!
