If you used someone else's data.dat it could do that with a WAT update. Haven't seen that since dec2012 tho... If you have a backup of your activation files, you can copy them over the bogus ones and then re-apply your key.
Well I haven't played with any files at all. all I do is run CCleaner (note it does have the option to delete the Index.dat files but I've never had an issue like this before
I just got off the phone with Microsoft, they said there is no way to fix this without a format, because my current Windows Edition is Windows 8.1 Pro with Media Center, so my original Windows 8 Pro key will not activate this edition. I cannot also use the Media Center key as that cannot be used to activate Windows. So I have to format, activate my Windows 8.1 Pro again, then re-apply the Media Center upgrade! bloody hell. this is a day's work since I have a lot of software to install I think this problem happened because I tried using the Windows 8.1 Setupbox just to see if I can download a new ISO from MS so I entered a default installation key, that's when the activation was lost. now my original windows 8 Pro key will not be able to activate until I get rid off the Media Center, so it's a format
In case the WMC key is legit, this is indeed weird, as running the Setupbox didn't mess with my activation (tested a week ago) . Running my ProWMC with same WMC key since Win 8 arrived at stage.
What makes me wonder is, after installing the Retail Install Key i'm still able to reenter my previous WMC Key and Windows is reactivated instantly .
I second this. I did not face such issues till date, using ProWMC key on top of KMS activation since Windows 8 and upgraded to Windows 8.1, it works like a charm.
windoze is a learning process for some around which later slows down to a very quiet and smooth way when not trying to invent the wheel newly
A dedicated Linux box would come in handy here. You certainly don't need activation issues cutting into your porn downloading.
offcourse it's legit bro. it's just 9 USD I bought it and so is my Windows 8 Key, I bought it when MS offered an upgrade from Win 7 to 8 for 9.99
yes it totally messed up my installation just when I thought I had it all perfect. The activation wizard will no longer accept my Windows 8 key since now obviously I'm on a diff. edition, which is Win 8.1 Pro Media Center Edition the media center won't activate either as it's not a Windows key but just a feature add on key I've reverted back my Windows to the image I created after activating, updating windows, before installing any drivers or software very very weird issue I must say and the ugly thing is Windows 8.1 doesn't allow you to simply change the key like it was so easy with Windows 7 that default installation key seemed to be embedded to the OS it was asking me to enter it, when I did, obviously it says that key is an installation key and not valid for activation These latest updates are seriously buggy
I just wish, for once, you don't comment with some silly reply. were you born as a jerk or did you acquire this feature as you gained more experience in life? you didn't ship from the factory this way now did you?
Most of the time, I feel I put way too much effort towards my Acronis & Paragon backup images. It's threads like this that tell me I'm not. Always great to recover from a snafu, no matter why the fault, in 10-15 minutes.
yes I can never do without Macrium Reflect Pro, doesn't even need a boot CD to recover (since it's the pro version) takes me back to start within 6 mins I have like 14 folders I share and give diff. share names so redoing it is so tedious, thanks to the backup image, I don't have to re do this on and on again but I feel a new format will come again if MS did release updated ISOs this April
Any way to downgrade back to 8 Pro? Then upgrade to 8.1 via MS Store. Then add WMC. One problem though is even if that worked, it would take a long time. (At least I recall it taking me a long time to do the upgrade).
