See if this corrects the issue. Repair the Windows Update database 1. Click on Start 2. Click on RUN (Guess what yoy have to do if you don't have a RUN option?) 3. Type CMD and hit OK 4. In the MS-Dos screen that appears type the following commands: net stop wuauserv [Enter] This will stop the "Automatic Updates" service that is using the database. 5. Now lets switch to the Windows directory - Type CD \Windows [Enter] (If you get "The system cannot find the path specified" then Windows is installed in another folder. Type SET [Enter] and look at the option "windir") 6. Type: Rename SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution_OLD which will rename the folder containing the database. 7. Type: net start wuauserv [Enter] 8. Now try Windows Update again. This may take a while because the database has to be rebuild.
I had this issue two or three times since late july (list with optional updates was empty, normally I can see there about 35 updates, most of them are language files). A simple reboot did cure it. Edit: Funny, I have it got right now! But yesterday I installed an update for ebay Turbo Lister. It wanted to reboot, but I refused it. During the night my laptop was in hibernation, so no reboot until now. Maybe that's the reason? Edit 2: Just rebootet, everything workes again.
It happened the same to me around a month ago. Autosolved after a couple days, not doing anything by my side.
Guys I just rebooted and it worked. Thanks Now the update appeared, it's 'Games For Windows - LIVE V3.1' Thanks for the help.
In Control Panel there also is under System and Security -> Find and fix problems -> Fix problems with windows update
