My understanding of MSE and the last reading I did about it ( yesterday - for I am considering utilizing it with my Win 7 installation ) MSE, auto updates 3 times a day with the objective of making sure the user does not have a Virus definition file that is older then 8 hours. Virus definition update on MSE is not to my knowledge a USER selectable YES or NO , it is enforce as YES for obvious and for security reasons.
Crap, I just noticed that My quick scan happened at 5:34 It is set to scan around 2:00AM I wouldn't call 5:34AM around 2:00AM since nothing was happening on my system. But oh well, at least you can read the articles in my links What a lame thread I had to open, I should have known better than to not use my friend google first.
I wonder what happens if that check box is not ticked? For this says update before the scan, but lets assume you do a scan only once a week? I need to find the MS document again, but if I read correctly it updates every 8 hours or so like it or not. Then again it was late maybe I am wrong. Edit: Found the doc....leaves for interpretation on the user side as to what happens I guess...scratching head!?
Like with Vista, choose: 'Check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them' This does not automatically install defender updates, you have to select to download and install them. I also recommending checking: - 'Give me recommended updates the same way I receive important updates' - 'All all users to install updates on this computer' <-- not necessary but hey - 'Give me updates for Microsfot products and check for new optional Microsoft software when I update Windows - 'Show me detailed notifications when new Microsoft software is available'
