I disabled Windows Update in Windows Vista, and I'm trying to disable Windows Update notifications from the Security Center, while keeping the remaining notifications intact (Firewall, AV, etc). Is this possible? In XP and 7 we can choose which notifications we want, in Vista I can only find 3 choices: - notification tray icon and popups; - notification tray icon only; - no notification tray icon or popups. That's a little limited considering Vista should be more advanced than XP, but we all know otherwise... So, can I tweak it further using regedit, a certain update or other methods, or is disabling Security Center altogether the only solution?
Shouldn't that be in the Vista forum? From what I know the Vista center allows switching off messages about antivirus/antispyware separately. Look for a link with a similar text like "Change how Security Center will notify me".
Click on "Show me available options". There should be one setting along the lines "I'll maintain the antivirus myself".
That option is only available on the Antivirus option. "Automatic Updating" only has a "change settings" button which redirects me to the Windows Update options, and a link to Windows Help explaining why Windows Update helps protecting my PC. Or not. So the tweaking, if any, can not be done using the Security Center options.
