    Hello Everyone,
I am helping a friend by installing a new hard drive in her computer. I am looking for the best way to install windows vista home premium x64 on it using her activation code located on the side of her hp machine. The computer did not come with an installation disk it only has a recovery partition on the old drive. Is there any way to reinstall the version of windows that came with the computer or is she forced to purchase a new os?

    Thanks

Edit: Sorry I posted this in the wrong area. Could a mod move this to the vista section?

If you look at Vista-OEM-Activation-How-it-Works and How-to-make-your-own-Vista-OEM-DVD

That is just for information purposes first thing you need is a Vista ISO you will find download links in Everything-MSDN-has-to-offer-for-Windows-Vista you can use serial number from machine but that requires contacting M$ whereas OEM:SLP activation is off-line.

You have various options make up OEM:SLP dvd easiest method for that would be to look at Win 8.x • Win 7 • Vista - 'Multi-OEM' ISO Project or just install vista and use Windows-Loader it will install correct OEM key and certificate.

And another point because your friends machine came pre-installed with Vista it has OEM SLIC 2.0 which means if you activate via OEM:SLP method you can install any version of vista except enterprise.
