I tried install windows vista x64 onto virtual pc on windows 7, but i got the message about it not supporting the x64 OS. If i download the x86 iso of vista, will it work on virtual pc? I just want to run windows vista without dualbooting.

I really don't see why you would want/need both. Win 7 is basically a more mature version of Vista. Your processor has to be able to support 64 bit if you want to use a x64 O.S.

    Yes, 32 bit will work.

But if you think you can use Vista like a normal OS then youre mistaken, because it is running on very low-spec emulated hardware and has no 3D accelleration etcetera.

(All in all there is very little you can do with it, so depending on what you expect it might not even be worth the trouble.)

yes, virtualPC doesnt support 64bit guest systems (32bit vista should work fine), even if your computer does. That is main reason im not using it, go with virtualbox or something...

What version of virtual PC are you using? The X86 or X64?

Virtual Box does support 64bit Guest OS - i tried it earlier. Or you can go with Virtual Pc 2007, they improved it so it supports guest 64bit OS. I was thinking at first you were asking about VPC 2007. But SoLoR is correct.

x86 certainly works however x64 works with VMware which is a much better virtual enviroment and supports linux, xp, dos, win 98/win 95. Useful to me for screen capture and testing.

Use VMware. It supports both x86 and x64 versions of Vista.
