Hello, I have a Dell Dimension E510 that has a XP MCE 2005 COA sticker on it. The hard drive died on me so after replacing it I tried to do a clean install of XP MCE using a CD that I downloaded elsewhere on this forum. All was well until Setup asked me for the product key. I entered in the key shown on the sticker on the computer and it tells me that the key isn't valid. Any ideas on why? Sorry I'm a noob and know nothing about retail, OEM, VL, SLP, etc., so I didn't understand the sticky threads very well. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Your easiest method to get you going just now would be use VLK and OEMBIOS changer...

Run it and check what oembios files you need they will probably be Dell (OEMBIOS.CAT CRC32=B6F0EEFD) once confirmed what oembios file are needed you will find links to them in The Windows XP OEMBIOS Archive

Once you have the files use them with VLK and OEMBIOS changer it will add the bios files and correct oem serial number to you existing install.

Once you have system activated read up on how to make OEM SLP cd you can use the oembios files you downloaded and the serial number that was use by changer.

You can back these up with the changer.
