After a bad setup, in which file asms could not be found even though its path was provided and the file really IS there, I am now hung in a "setup is being restarted" loop and cannot get out of it. It doesn't matter whether I boot from the CD drive, or the hard drive, I get the same "setup is being restarted." What must I do to complete my reinstallation and move on? (BTW, I'm a retired mostly-mainframe system programmer / software engineer)
As I said in my original post, I cannot get out of the loop. EVERY boot, whether from CD or HDD, results in "Setup is being restarted."
The file is there but probably cannot be read as the disc is damaged. So first step is burning a new CD, then formatting the drive and restarting the installation altogether.
The file 'asms' brought up old frustrating memories of trying to install XP. Ever thought of replacing the old cd/dvd drive with newer one?
