I have seen 1 year ago, that there can be found on the net recovery installation disk of windows, like hp or asus or dell, can they freely then be run on many pcs? no activation needed in that case? automatic windows updates must be off or on in such case?

probably you do not understand. There is computer, there is windows xp pro with official key activated, I would like to put this windows on another computer with another bios, motherboard and so on. Is there any way, to make this key work on that another computer? If not on both of them, then at least on newer one of them.
If the 'official key' is OEM:SLP key, then it is possible. You need to include the SLP string of the source PC to destination PC, use corresponding OEMBIOS set along with the key. So let us start thoroughly: 1. What is the type of the 'official key'??
oh, but automatic updates for years went good from official microsoft server, and as you know or not, pirated serials don`t allow that, or immediately crash system of windows.
Never heard of Windows XP crashing due to illegal keys... the most it can happen is a warning about a pirated copy of Windows if WGA (Windows Genuine Advantage) is installed by windows update. If you block installation of WGA, you will not be able to install WSE (Windows Security Essentials) and possibly Media Player 11. By the way, I used Windows XP Home SP3 OEM for YEARS without any update, and never had any security problems, so you might not even need to install updates. Just install a good free anti-virus (AVG/Avast/Avira/etc), an updated browser (Chrome/Firefox) with AdBlock Plus addon and you're good to go.
