Good and bad since people could create their own patches to new exploits. Making new drivers would also be easier. MS would be in an interesting spot if there is a new exploit and new fix created by the community. Do they let it go so people can get patched or will they aggressively go after getting the patches taken down on copyright grounds? Has this been vetted yet? It will be interesting if this is actually real.
Some open source software could make use of this, like wine and reactos. They couldn't just copy paste though, but look at how things work and then implement.
They can't use these source codes. They can use it as reference but they can't use the codes directly. Also no one is making drivers (with the lack of UEFI bios support) for win XP any more .. I dont see this leak is going anywhere ...none would waste his time for a dead system.
There is literally a thread on this forum where new and modified drivers for XP are discussed: https://forums.mydigitallife.net/th...ls-to-run-windows-xp-on-newer-hardware.81607/ Also, you can write the identical function dozens of ways. Seeing the source would let you rewrite anything you want with identical functionality but different source.
Looks like generic false positives to me. Also, if one doesn't know what to do with the source code, he shouldn't be downloading it in first place. I'm interested on a reply from microsoft about this leak. This code could really help reactOS and wine projects but if microsoft decides to charge anyone that uses the code, this might became pretty useless for us (maybe not for hackers).
The takedowns have started. The YouTube video showing off instructions on how to build the source code (minus the missing parts, obviously) was taken down by Microsoft. Doesn't sound like they're all too happy about this or even just turning a blind eye.
This is false, Microsoft did not take down the videos, a malicious, bad faith third party impersonating Microsoft abused Google's DMCA process to take down the videos.
I have already downloaded this and i want to know if anyone has the source code or a compilation code to convert the source code to an iso or a bootable windows. Instead of beating around the bush. Hope my reply will find u in goood mood. So people do anyone of u know how to compile it.
The Windows XP source code, is missing critical files, such as Winlogon.exe, which makes it impossible to install the operating system. This is not a true source code, just to alive they r purposely doing this.
Source code is missing WPA related stuff for good reasons; at least you can find the Private Key for signing themes.
