I'm using windows XP SP3 activated. Can't remember last time I use control panel 'automatic updates', i mean years. I was going for this alternatives, but eventually m$ update I€ browser (from now on referred as update.m$.com) started to show some results. It was giving an error 0x80072EE2 before. 1) I can't access 'Windows Update Catalog' in 'update.m$.com' > 'use administrator options' ; it's returning Server Error 404. 2) In I€ browser there is an update KB905474 regarding genuine verification. Could it be installed? 3) In I€ browser there is an update regarding m$ office 2007, which i don't have. i have 2003. why am I receiving this update? 4) In I€ browser there is an update regarding Visual Studio 2010, 2008, 2005. why am I receiving these updates? 5) msinfo32.exe or System Information is missing somehow. Is there way to retrieve it ? appreciate your help
Hello, I will try to help you... First, if you want to see your update history, just go to Windows Update homepage and you will have an option "View installation history" or something like that. 1) Windows update catalog : Have you admin rights ? This website needs an activex, is it installed ? if not try this link catalog.update.microsoft.com/v7/site/Install.aspx, or try to shutdown your antivirus and your firewall 2) kb905474 : if your WinXP is legit (it cheks if it is or not) you can install it but it is not necessary 3) MS office 2007 : you probably have the office 2007 compatibility pack for office 2003 installed 4) Visual Studio : you probably have Visual c++ redistributable 2010, 2008 and 2005 installed and you see security updates for these which are necessary components for some programs to work correctly. 5) msinfo32.exe : good question... I don't have the answer but I'm sure you will find it if you use our friend google
KB905474 but is it like windows 7 wat 971033 ? i mean I can apply this activation and nothing gets blocked due to OEM VL key.
If I remember correctly the only way to check it is on your Windows XP install CD. Open the file \i386\setupp.ini and you will see the channel you used (Retail, Volume License or OEM)
Launch this command in Run %systemroot%\system32\oobe\msoobe.exe /a , you' ll see if Windows is activated...or not
