    Hello again all @ MDL
have ran into a small problem on a friend's computer and it has me stumped
his machine is an old Elonex system and he has the system and recovery disk" will supply if needed to MDL admin's " but when i run it it say's an error on the winnt.sif file ...
now I fixed it by making another winnt.sif file and it worked.. after 7 hour's 15 cup's of coffee and the internet :worthy:

is there anyway of removing the winnt.sif file altogether without getting an error ...
in fact is there a way not to have any answer file at all and have install attended

then it would make my life a lot simpler in the long run

Admin's send me pm for Elonex cd - but you will have to tell me how to upload asI have no idea on how to upload and i dont trust the megaupload site's and others...

made a copy myself so no rush :)

No need to upload it anywhere. Just build an iso after the original cd and edit it with Ultraiso or Poweriso and replace winnt.sif with the one you you made. Save it to a new image and burn it. You can keep out winnt.sif altogether and the setup will run normal, but you'll have to enter the product key and press a few 'nexts'. I'd say you keep it as it'll make your life easier. And you don't want 7 hours of hard work thrown away, would you?:)

Just see what's inside the old winnt.sif as it might have some lines concerning windows themes that might be on the cd. Otherwise you're safe.

yes thats what i have done - but just wanted to know if it could be deleted and have no problem's or whether it's hard coded into the system when it was first done with sysprep...

delete it and you will have to enter all as prompted...It is most certainly not necessary for the install.

wish it was that simple - the winnt.sif file could not be read from when I was installing.
so I deleted it and it was still the same. "error cannot read winnt.sif"
then I coped the default one off the elonex cd removed the userdata and then it worked as expected :)

I've spent several years learning XP unattended stuff and I got pretty good at it, so I can tell you it's a fact that winnt.sif is not needed. All it does is give setup the info it's looking for.

If you get an error without it, then there's another file making a call to it for some reason, which isn't right.

At least you got it working. That's what counts. Good job.

But if the file is not there when called for it will give you an error and will not continue to install -remember that this is not from scratch this is already sys preped recovery disk and the file winnt.sif file was corrupt so then I deleted it and then it gave me an error saying can not read or find winnt.sif ...

anyway I did get it sorted yes :)

I was after the Elonex OEM files as they aren't on any of the online repositories thought it would be nice to have them released.

All i can suggest is P.M. 3sidedcube and ask if he would upload them. Also did you actually run oembios.exe to see what manufacturer strings are there you may not need Elonex.

Probably FIC if I remember correctly. FIC is (was) heavy in the education market and ELONEX used these boards for a while.

It's actually an MSI Board and OEMBIOS.exe comes up with nothing well its got an E:HP & Compaq OEMBIOS.cat but thats from the Disk I used to install from.

    DMI
    SYSTEM>Manufacturer Name: Elonex PLC
Base Board>Manufacturer Name: MICRO-STAR INTERNATIONAL CO., LTD
    Enclosure/Chassis>Manufacturer Name: Elonex PLC

So I'm guessing OEMBIOS.exe should have reported "Elonex PLC"

Only if the Elonex string is in the program's data and then only if the Elonex string is in the correct address range. Just because the strings are in DMI do not mean they are valid.

Easy enough to change the string to any string valid in the DMI range (if you need to).

The CRC of What ? the HP files from the Install CD ? CD4E1902

Guys you are missing the point I know how to re-brand the motherboard but as someone had posted that they had an original Elonex CD I thought it would be nice to get the files released so they could be added to the repositories.

In an ideal world yes but since the files have not been uploaded then just do what you need to do to get it working. it will never get knocked out via M$ validation e.c.t

All files are from the oem $$ dir off the disk the last three files can be ignored
just put them here for refference.

Just another thought the way I did a mod was to use the original Bios from the manufacture and then use one of the bios mod tools the one for the motherboard you are using "i.e AMI or Award" and use the tool to insert any slp/slic string in the bios.
and then use the same manufacure bios util " i.e the bios update tool for your motherboard" to put the moded file of the bios file that you created from the mod tool for inserting the slp/slic string.

If on the other hand and you are compleatly lost with what I have said then you need to read more on this site!!!
