    Hello,

I am using Win7 Ulti /DazLoader, for a few years now. (last clean install March 2013)
Usually, everything is working as it is supposed to, but…

Since yesterday I am trying to do the usual Windows Defender Update, as every few days, never a problem before.

But this time UpdateDefender WinUpdate KB915597

(Definition Update for Windows Defender - KB915597 (Definition 1.153.1309.0)
    Installation date: ‎06.‎07.‎2013 16:05
    Installation status: Failed
    Error details: Code 80072EFD
    Update type: Important)

again and again stops and shows me

    Error Code 80072EFD

I did the last Windows Defender Update on the 3.July, so I did a successful system restore, back to the 2.July, when it must have been working properly, but…. Error Code 80072EFD

So after some research I found, that I have to add „System32 –wuapp“ to the firewall exceptions. Although I have never changers anything at the firewall setting wuapp is indeed missing. I add iot to the exception list….

Yet, again, no difference, same error

What can I do, to fix this?

    Thanks

Lan Settings - Proxy Server !!!

I did some more research and found another possible reason…
In: Control Panel - Internet Options – Internet properties – Connections – LAN Settings
I found that the box for „Use a Proxy Server“ had been klicked. And it ceratinly was not done by me.
I un-clicked it, and immediately the download of the Windows Update worked properly…..

What can change a setting like that?
I have been using a VPN for a month, could that change it? And if yes, why did it work without a problem for almost a month?

I ran all kinds of AV Software, incl the Kaspersky Emergency disc… all negative.
