    Hey no worries, as a moderator every thread is of concern :) and as you will know we all learn more every day just by reading various topics e.c.t.. on a personal note I also prefer to download mkv files just because you can get some from 300MB upwards saves space on hard drive :) On a bad note my daughter bought wife and I a new dvd player for our anniversary it plays divx e.c.t but no mkv :( don't really matter one in bedroom is just normal so need to convert to dvd anyway.

    Installed the one without core avc & wmp12 is able to play mkv files but have no thumbnails for mkv files.
    Uninstalled it restarted pc & installed the one with core avc with a serial but still no thumbnails.

    Also is there any way to add support for thumbnails with mkv MPEG2-TS because my mkv dvd rips of mpeg 2 don't show thumbs. ;)

    @chaddawkins,

    Thank you very much for the effort you have into this package. It's almost exactly what I was looking for.

    As a frequent video encoder, codec packs are something to be avoided at all costs. The minimalist nature of this particular pack is what convinced me to give it a go. Using this, I can continue to rely on ffdshow as my primary codec for streams that Windows cannot natively handle without it being overridden by something else automatically.

    Personally, I have no real use for this as a means to enable playback of MKVs within WMP/WMC as I use MPC:HC for everything. The main draw (besides the minimalist nature) was the thumbnail generation. I had previously been using the Divx pack for this, but I had recently discovered a caveat within my video encoding workflow that forced the Divx codec to decode video instead of ffdshow. Certain scenes were slightly (and I mean ever-so-slightly) off color. While this issue wasn't a big deal in my test sample, I didn't want to come across the one or two videos where colors were way off.

    Anyway, would it be asking too much if you could release a version that only does thumbnail generation? A lot of people like me get thrown off by "Codec Pack" and automatically assume that it's bad for encoding purposes.

    P.S. - FLV thumbnail generation was a nice little bonus. I wasn't looking for an FLV thumbnail generator, but I do occasionally work with them. Again, thanks.

    @ Hackemate

    Use K-Lite mega codec pack, it has an option to choose while installing ;)

    I don't want to use codec packs, only to register a dll for thumbnails mkv files, if this is possible.

    (OP)
    New Version 2.0 !!! :w00t2:

    I almost completely rewrote the codec pack using a new (open source) splitter/decoder.
    Better than before with miles of potential !!!
    Even plays Blu-Ray !!! (click on index.bdmv in BDMV folder)
    :worthy:
