So here I am with another problem... Ahem.... Well i was formatting my hd on my old desktop, now in the middle of the install its asking for windows xp SP3 -.- i dont have a disk for it, and i tried to download one off of Microsofts website, turned out that it was missing a file... Is there a safe source i can use to download the file? or should i just order one from microsofts website... (idiots are asking for $$ to give assistance) I have a CD key and everything but i dont have a xp disc. PLZZZZ HELP
i don't quite get you. you mentioned you're in the middle of the install? but then again you don't have a XP disc?
I have my recovery discs, not original xp discs, and they wont work... still asking for SP3 disc. And i dont have it.
It sounds like you did not do a clean install... You cannot repair an XP SP3 installation with an older version. Also your OEM key will not work with a retail install disk. You will need to boot with your recovery cd and format the drive and then install whatever version of xp is on the recovery disk. Then you can download upgrades to sp2 and sp3 afterwards.
now i get it. like TheOldScout mentioned, yes you'd need to do a full recovery. not a partial recovery or repair. i'd suggest you backup your important data first, format the drive and restore to factory defaults. that should work
well now im stuck in the middle of a format, and i cannot go on past the message that tells me to insert a windows xp sp3 disc...
If you are indeed formatting, you do not need any disc..I can upload an ISO to another site but it will be a while. Let me know what you want to do...
usually that prompt appears when you're trying to repair a XP installation. and like 911medic mentioned, you don't need a cd to format. is it possible to restart the recovery process? this time wipe the entire harddisk content
no it wont let me... i've looked at a couple torrents and i found a xp one... going to try that if that doesnt work i will be sure to post back... Also i cant restart the process for some stupid messed up reason.
i checked the responses about them... and most of the ISO's had around 560mb size so i downloaded the most favoured one
How would that be easier??? Just use the right tools and get job you want done. If you need a reformat, then use the gparted to delete the partition. You can also delete the partition from the windows setup disc. I think you do not have a complete understanding of what you would like to do. I know I don't...
