Just for info : First, this is not a Phoenix Dell proprietary BIOS, but an Award bios. He changed : This is not a clean mod, he changed checksum (replace FF by 8 bits checksum), size, some modules do not end correctly, perhaps it works, but this is not very clean
Actually mate its a lot simpler than that I ran the installer , went to temporary files , found the bin file and flash utility and it opened with modbin. I unhid everything there and saved it. Modbin is able to open it just fine How is there eanything wrong with it I didnt change any headers or anything And the inspiron 518 comes with Award , not phoenix bios
Modbin is a crapshoot with rebuilding the bios. You got lucky.. This is an old tool with limited utility IMHO..Good luck with this..
it will be interesting to see if somebody tries it and how it works out though Might be on to something! And also , ive probably used modbin on gigabyte bioses more than any other board and hardly any corrupt (about 1 in 10). The ones that do corrupt you just mod again and then they save fine
And what about the mobo? Was it still booting up??? You did new Gigabyte (core I7) mainboard bios to modify with modbin???? How is the real success rate?
ah i dont think i did any core i7 ones , mainly cos i cant afford i7 atm lol i didnt test either , jusdts modded
Maybe you need to change the subject of this thread to: You Can Unlock Dell Bioses - The Mystery Is Over!! Putting can't sort of assumes it is not possible
............like Barack Obama, yes we can....... Offon7544 mentioned it already, Dell uses mainly a own Phoenix bios, Award here is a exceptional case..... To unlock one Dell Award bios doesn't mean to unlock 'Dell bioses'.... Most of Dell bioses we cannot decompress due to the lack of proper tools. The thread title is a overstated advertisement.
Ah like BENQ, good thing their laptop biosses already come with the right SLIC table, regardless of if you bought Vista. Just a case of importing the right cert and using ther right key and bobs your uncle
I have this exact machine with the stock C2D E7300 (2.66GHz) cpu. Has this been tested and verified by anyone with a Dell Inspiron 518? Thanks.
Thank you 1234s282 for doing the work for me. I updated my Inspiron 530 Q6600 with a FoxConn G33m03 motherboard Dell# FM586 using the BIOS 1.0.18 supplied by 1234s282. It worked pefectly. Now I have access to all the bios settings, not just the crippled Dell setup. I do not know programming, however I question if FoxAwdWINFLASH.sys is decompressing it beforeWinFlash.exe writes it to the bios. Can anyone clarify this? Thanks everyone: Outkast1
Hi, I cant find any information / links about an unlocked bios for a Vostro on the biosmods.com page. Any chance to download an unlocked bios for a Vostro 200 from somewhere else? THX
You Cant Unlock Dell Bioses The Mystery Is Over Sorry about the double post. But I have the installation CDs for Windows Media Center, so Im wondering if these drivers will still work on Media Center ?
