What is your Favorite App To Slim ' Tweak ' Slip your Win7 '8 installer? Or do you just install via the default WIM and slim ' tweak after install? Thanks
I install from the genuine product gotten via link provided by this forum; all tweaks come later. So much simpler for me that way. One and done with a standard product.
Ok, so I guess the consensus here is to do a default install, tweak that install, and then image that install? How much of that install can actually be imaged for use on other hardware? Thanks
I don't think two posts constitute a forum consensus. I'd guess this is just currently a low interest topic.
Might be nice challenge to run Win 8.x off of a 8 GB SD card and have some spare space though . But even in case the tools offer the option to remove features, not sure whether it's useful, as most of them own loads of dependencies. So the result at some point will become more Frankenbuild than OS. No really proper base for a production system (think of WIM to ESD conversion with new DISM) .
My experience exactly. And once you've built this "monster" (or "monsters") you have to keep rebuilding them in order to stay current with updates and such.
... some great points. So to avoid the whole Frankenbuild rabbit hole, maybe just: 1- A good Unattend.xml builder, 2- An organized collection of reg tweaks, 3- An organized collection of batch files for safe removals, and stop there?
Mine goes: 1. Windows 7 media refresh installation media of choice. 2. "Standard programs" on disk or flash drive installed selectively per client's wishes. 3. Short list of harmless performance tweaks. After that, the user is free to do what he/she wishes.
