my mbr disk is booting from the fat32 uefi partition, not the boot sector. if it was relying on the boot sector it would give a grub error because that is the current boot sector code

some newer machines' hardware will sometimes not load or will not be seen by newer windows versions unless it is booting uefi. what got me interested in booting uefi from mbr is that i fixed a pc for a customer that had an oem uefi windows 10 setup--long story short, certain hardware (wifi and bluetooth) would not load unless booting uefi. because of my dvd drive issues on my own laptop i decided to see if booting uefi fixed the issue i had, which it did. i did this on a spare hdd. i did not want to clean and convert my main disk to gpt and did not want to use the linux mbr to gpt trick either. and i wanted uefi boot at the same time. and i accomplished it without any need for gpt or a complicated process.

simply put, the advantages of hardware detection and use provided by uefi can be achieved on systems without the need for converting to gpt. i'm sure i'm not the only one who hasn't wanted to clean an hdd and lose the data or take the time to back it up and then clean it.

and gpt is only beneficial in situations where the disk is beyond 2TB in size. unlimited primary partitions really aren't that important because dual, triple, quad, and other multiboot scenarios can be achieved without each system being on a primary partition already so i don't know what use it really serves.

What type of drive format works best and fastest.
