I've also got an Asus G75VW (BB model) with a Crucial 128GB SSD as primary. I did a clean install using the $15 upgrade image and used the Win8 drivers from the Asus site and the Win7 ones for those that were missing (audio). One thing is that they released a BIOS upgrade that allowed WiFi airplane mode to toggle correctly. Maybe do a BIOS upgrade if you haven't already? Also, I didn't remove WMP... With StartIsBack installed I like it as good or better than Win7. Seems very snappy on my system due to no Aero Glass I guess.
