Thanks for the guide Urie While editing, notice this line of codes Code: <cpi:offlineImage cpi:source="wim:d:/win7-beta/win32-hp/install.wim#Windows 7 HOMEBASIC" xmlns:cpi="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:cpi" /> Should i change "HOMEBASIC" to "ULTIMATE" ?
The DELL OEM WIN 7 DVD installs all DELL Backgrounds and also the 'OEM Branding Logos' without that AutoUnattend.xml File. Maybe this is different for other OEMs from other Companies, but i don't think so, for me it looks more like that the AutoUnattend.xml is need for Homebrew OEMs. regards Donk
... download it and read the file if its not to much to ask.. and maybe I should go to work tommorow and tell my boss to tell the mfg plant to stop massproducing the oem disc because its homebrew
Help with bios or what to do this... Hi, I have two keys for Windows 7 professional but one of them I have already installed the Ultimate RC version and I was hoping I could just get a working key so that i don't have to do a clean install and then re-install all my programs and data. Two questions, can someone tell me what i have to do to my system to do this. The one with the RC is a Gateway desktop. The other still has the Vista Home Premium and it is a HP HDX. Would love to loose all of HP's bloat though!!! Thanks btw, I should say, I found the bios and mod thread, I'm just not real sure what I am doing so wanted a little more help!
No kidding Einstein, that is what I am trying to do.... You didn't answer my questions or really even read it. I have a key for Professional. This is Ultimate. I would like to be able to use one of these keys but I don't know how to do all of the mod stuff to my system or how to go about it. I am not a programmer although I am going to take classes for that and I found you guys who seem to have it all here in this great forum.. So will you please help ME
I spent about 5 hours searching the threads. I know how to downgrade to Windows 7 Professional. I don't want to downgrade if I don't have to. I found this and I wanted to be able to use an OEM license and just convert my current or upgrade to the Ultimate. If I have to downgrade then I have to re-install all of my programs and I have a lot. It looks like from what I read here I can get an OEM but after reading forever it also looks like I have to mod my bios or write some programs to make it happen. I just don't want to start doing anything without a clear understanding and the one thing I also noticed is that people here were very helpful.. I never just post a question on a site without researching first. I realize that unfortunately that is not always true but if I could have found it myself I would be half way done by now, not looking for answers.
The problem is that you can't upgrade from the RC version because it is the Ultimate and the software I have is the Professional version. That is what got me to searching for the Ultimate OEM software and lead me to believe that in order to use it I had to mod my bios. I have the motherboard info and I will go there and read that. Thanks, does it change your answer now though knowing that that version I have on my system and the Professional are different. From everything I have read from the Technet forum you can not do an upgrade. Not unless you have the Ultimate. I was chosen to have a Windows launch party and I also have been testing the software since it came out in beta and so I have one MSDN license and one Upgrade license from a computer that I bought in December. The license from the launch party I have license but not the Ultimate software. It's a long story......
I presume this is the MSDN key? This is the one that activated the RC release i presume? Only the MSDN key can be used on RTM release, RC key is useless So either you have to downgrade to Professional RTM and use your MSDN key or upgrade to Ultimate RTM and use a OEM:SLP key, bios mod or loader and a oem certificate how hard was that? ... Einstein
Yeah, obviously the RC isn't valid, I have two RTC's, (in addition to the RC key), and one Ultimate. So I have it now. Thanks for the assist! I just got all messed up because I tend to read fast and then it filters into the "little" brain and the stuff I was reading kept talking about doing the mod. and so I though I had to do all of that first. It wasn't until later that I found the fix from Technet only to come back and see you also knew where that was and posted the link! I just kept reading everywhere people saying no no clean install,,,, dahhhh dahhh dahhh duh and I just know there had to be a better way. Oh might one! And you wondered what I was doing in here bugging you. So tell me. Most of the people on this forum are programs or going to school for such? I looked at some of the links that people had posted about different classes and I am going to look into some of them. Great forum and great information here. You guys like to fix puzzles. So do I. That is why I became a researcher. I have a really cool program that was part of what I bought into when I started this business that lets me load a url company and then it diggs deep into it and comes up with contact info and other interesting stuff. Let me know if you think you ever need anything. Happy to help!
I have already take a closer look to this xml file before, My explanation now (after becoming aware of the BloadWare on DELL disks) is that the european DELL OEM DVDs come without any BloadWare, DELL seems to use the Autounatend.xml to install their Bloadware in the areas where Bloadware is on the DISK. There seems to be also an Autounatend.xml file on it then. So i'am not aware of this before and humbly ask pardon for this mistake on my side. regards Donk
