(officially) supported
You can install updates from a pe environment. At least last year, or the year before i published a howto for 1507 Pro, trying to find it. EDIT, nvm, it was for 1703: https://forums.mydigitallife.net/th...3-1596-what-kb-to-install.80403/#post-1554163 You can try if this works for 1507 too but i doubt it will.
1507 is a dead beef for 1607 Enterprise / N (non LTSB), you can try adding this registry key to allow installation Code: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Win101607EOS] "{053DEC44-5C18-418D-BC3A-7D0C1F6838E3}"="{368E1623-5A77-4893-8201-48096DEE4970}" "{B78F56A2-868B-44B2-A373-DF57A232D4BE}"="{16D54C04-4D80-496D-B3FA-937F0AAAEB37}"
try telling that to this guy do realize that Intel clover trail atom CPUs are 32bit x86 only CPUs as they don't have 64bit support of any kind
That's what I've taught too, until bumping into a staggering amount of devices that can only run up to windows 10 1507 stable (due to gpu drivers from amd and intel). POS, accounting, rugged laptops and other embedded form factor used in marine navigation and etc. - most small businesses can't/won't upgrade hardware until it dies, for various reasons like relying on some piece of software or driver made by someone long out of business or just being cheap and/or technologically-impaired. On potatoes 1507 blows any later versions, as well as any windows 8 flavor, and is as close to windows 7 as it can be. If only there was a quality update for it like the one for 20H2.. Even on potatoes, I'd say to give 20H2 a try, if you can pass setup and find suitable drivers, once it settles it has some of that 1507 smoothness that 1607 never managed to achieve. The highly overrated LTSC 2019 is a turd by comparison.
let's see if this reg hack can also work with 1607 home & pro editions, abbodi at least until Jan. 2023. 1607 CUs made from Feb. 2023 & beyond will only support LTSB 2016 edit 8/29 - big phat fail, abbodi - "we couldn't complete the updates - undoing changes" error when installing recent 1607 x64 LCUs with this reg hack on 1607 x64 home/pro/enterprise/education (non-ltsb). back to the drawing board (maybe it only works with 32bit/x86 1607?) @BAU only problem with 1507 is that it can only use up to .NET 4.6.2. .NET 4.7, 4.8 & greater require v1607 or higher and won't install on 1507/1511 versions there are a few apps I use that depend on .NET 4.7/4.8 or better
It's been couple years since I gave up on 8, it's got nothing over 7 and suffers from the same quirks as 10 (1507) specially after telemetry "features" were backported. Drivers had the same quirks, update processes stalled, power management features were not working to the fullest, the ui is bastardized even in it's 8.1 incarnation, and cherry on top, security features were subpar (uac may be a joke in 10 but other than that privilege escalations don't run wild like in 8). Who cares about a bit higher raw speed for an internet-connected PC? Security. Usability. Performance. Only in that order.
